Everyone has a favourite cult film I think... at least one.
Off the top of my head, I'd have to say one of them is the 1968 Night of the Living Dead. I remember seeing it for the first time on late night TV in the mid-70s. A friend was staying over and it scared the hell out of us.
I'd have to also include American Graffiti (actually saw that one in theatres in 1973), and Mike Judge's Office Space.

The cult films I like most would have to be Rocky Horror, Wizards, and Repo Man

I'm never sure what makes a movie a cult classic.
But going on the examples given above, Rocky Horror and Office Space

I'm surprised more people haven't said Rocky Horror.
I personally never understood it.

It's all about the aprticipation...if you watch it without that, it's just a cheesy homage to b-movies with some snappy songs...

I probably went to see it 3-4 dozen times, but it was more to watch the people going to see it than for the film itself.
Well, okay, so the last time I went I happened to know my youngest daughter was there. I also happened to be handing out religious tracts and asking people if they'd met the lord.
I think she's forgiven me ...
BTW ... does Space Balls count? How about Blazing Saddles?

I had heard all about the following of this movie, the audience participation and oh everyone just loved it etc.. you gotta see it etc..
Then I finally saw Rocky Horror, and I was like...wtf? Not my cup of tea.

I couldn't agree more, I only got about 30 - 35 minutes in to the film before turning it off, it's shite on a whole new level. :hmm:

You can't forget UHF, that's the ultimate cult film.
Also nothing like a bit of the ol' in and out, with A Clockwork Orange.

Excellent choices! We used to see Eraserhead every couple of weeks, and do handfuls of 'shrooms before going in. One of my favourites!
Also:
Dawn of the Dead
Clerks
Rocky Horror (but only a midnight showing with a theatre full of crazy people)
Evil Dead I & II & Army of Darkness
Raising Arizona
Reefer Madness
and who could ever forget...
Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
(just watched this again a couple of night ago)

Russ Meyer is a God amongst men...
Story Of Ricky is best when watched dubbed in english and with the subtitles still on...the subtitles are so far off, it's hysterical...

Yes, and that was an amazing movie! I remember that I had no idea as to what was going on, but it was great to watch ;)
There are too many of those great Asian movies to list. The Fantasia Film Fest is the best.

I can't say I understood it, but I had alot of fun going to see it. ;) My first viewing was a midnight show a lifetime ago. Many fellow movie goers in full RHPS regalia, and all the props being used. It was a blast.
Also had a very good time...(or I think I had a good time, I was trashed)...at a RHPS costume party. I was Magenta.

If you're into Beethoven, check out Immortal Beloved. One of my all time favorite movies :)

I spent most of this thread going "omigosh, YES!" :)
I made my kids sit through the "sociological impact of the original 'Night of the Living Dead'" monologue. I wanted them to understand what a big damned deal it was to have a black hero at the time period. (Being children of an entirely different era, they would have missed it entirely.) Especially to have a black hero who picks up the world's palest blonde white woman and carries her to safety.
I'm a huge horror fan, and my all time favorites are "Evil Dead 1 & 2" and "3," "Army of Darkness." Out of all the horror movies I've seen, 1 and 2 are the only ones who continually have the power to make me jump. I've seen them repeatedly, too...they went onto the "must buy!" list fast.
i always liked to do cardio with The Killer by John Woo. 90 minutes of people getting shot non-stop.

some guys in moscow dubbed some movies like Attack of the Clones, Matrix Revolutions and some other big movies with a completely different dialogue - like the Attach Of The Clones one is dubbed over with these guys using mafia/prison slang - its kinda like dubbing it over with hardcore, brooklyn mafia guys voices who are really stupid - and they create a whole different storyline that matches whats going on, on screen. its one of the funniest things i have ever seen in my life.

Reminds me of Woody Allen's "What's Up, Tiger Lilly?" -- and of recent note, the "MXC" television show. :)

I know for a fact that we've had this specific discussion, Sykky... LOL
Rocky Horror, but ONLY with the midnight show crowd, and a couple of joints...
(want the best ? I was the projectionist for 12 of my viewings, with a marathon held
at RIT... nothing like going to Rocky Horror, getting stoned and being paid to do it. :) )
Also at one point, I had a soundtrack that was created during a Midnight show, complete
with audience responses... :)
Buckaroo Bonzai
Killer Klowns from Outer Space
Eating Raoul
Reefer Madness
Fandango
a weird little short from around 1980 called "DoubleTalk"
Russ Meyer is a God amongst men...
Agreed, and think you know this about me Sykky... the man responsible for helping me get
my start with shooting in LA before I had moved out here, was the Director of Photography
for all of Russ Meyer's films... Hal Guthu (who also hooked me up with Nikki Nova :okthumb: )

I'm not sure you could call them cult movies but I grew up doting on the Friday 13th movies - they're shite I know but they're definitely a guilty pleasure for me.
Leon is another film I love from my formative years :) More recently Donnie Darko was worth a watch, and The Crow deserves a mention.

I love all those serial serial killer monster movies. (Not a typo or a stutter, just the only way I could think to put it.)
Way back on David Letterman's daytime talk show, he pointed at this shy appearing gentleman in the audience and had the audience guess his profession. The general consensus was "elementary school teacher." Then the nice man lifted his hand...with Freddy's glove on it. I was as shocked as every one else at that moment to discover what Robert Englund looked like without his makeup. :)

My all time favorite is Rocky Horror
(There is a generation of us somewhere out there, whom are condemmed to forever have water pistols, rubber gloves and fishnets at the ready, for an impromptu Rocky Horror showing)
Hedgwig and the Angry Inch is also another interesting cult movie.
