I guess one way is to accept criticism, get more connections and just work and work.

When your name is in everybody's faces, it's much easier to exchange links, traffic, etc.

Oh, I've won all kinds of fine schtuff from boards, including a handy $100 just last Friday.

Serge is right - a board presence can be very beneficial.

I am also right - you can go way beyond establishing a board presence and just flat-out waste time.
