When I started building galleries, I started with BDSM, as that is a niche I know. Gradually, it became time to branch out and start diversification in my knowledge base. I think I'll be working on that for as long as I'm in the biz. :)

One of the things I have decided that I need to improve is my ability to write compelling copy. I like to read, and want to start a collection of books to keep as reference materials. My thoughts are that sound marketing strategies that work in mainstream will transfer to adult. (There may be books specifically for the porn industry, but I haven't found them yet. ;) )

My first purchase was "The Online Copywriter's Handbook Everything You Need To Know To Write Electronic Copy That Sells" by Robert Bly. It had some very good general tips in it. Some of the information that is specific to the web is somewhat dated (2001 publish date) But only because of the specifics of the medium being discussed (ie, e-zines are addressed, but not a word on blogs, and understandably so)

I've got another book on it's way. This one is "Ogilvy on Advertising". It came well recommended by someone in the biz, and has great reviews on Amazon. I look forward to diving into it.

Assuming that this is not a board full of marketing majors, what things have you done to enhance your sales abilities?

Its easier than that if you are a guy.

Drink 6 cans of beer , smoke a joint and surf one handed for a few hours. You are now thinking like a surfer.

Any "trap" you fall for incorporate into your own sites.

Actually, that works for me as well. I'll see a pic set, and think "fuck, what I wouldn't give to be tied up like that, or whatever". Such a thing is what got me to being an affiliate of Fetish Nation.

I want to be able to know how to do more than sell porn though. (Not saying I have that down completely, but I'm getting better) I want to learn to maybe diversify into mainstream someday as well. The more income streams the better.

Same thing.....

Back in the day , when you signed up to a certain affiliate program they got you into the habit of just clicking "Yes" on a multitude of choice pages.

ie

Click yes... if you are over 18
Click yes... if you agree to a FREE TRIAL
Click yes.. if you are sure
Click yes.. if you are really sure
Click yes... if you positively want to see naked chicks
Click yes.. if it is ok to charge yr credit card after all
Click yes ...if you wanna see nude teens
Click yes ...if in order to see NUDE TEENS we can also send you a disk at 45.99
Click yes... if in order to see YOUNG BITCHES we can scharge yr card again

;-))))

AOL did a similar thing. :)

sorry from a traffic point of view,...you don't get it.

All you have done is chosen what content you like...

~thinks~

You are right in that. It is the content I was talking about in that instance. I guess I was equating the two because as a surfer, if I wanted to see more of this particular guy's work, I would have to join his site.
