does anyone else find it wierd that no one uses real names, or even first names in press releases of this nature....to me it symbolizes a real unprofessionalism...not saying that TopBucks is unprofessional, i know they are and they are a great sponsor and leader in the industry...but here is an example
what if the person you hired had the nick CockInAssBoy....would you really think writing
Everyone please welcome CockInAssBoy to the Big Bucks team!!! We are so happy to have CockInAssBoy, we can contain ourself. CockInAssBoy is a HUGE asset to our industry
i am rambling
but why not make it say
Everyone please welcome Lee to the Top Bucks team. You may know him as CockInAssBoy on the boards, but welcome him as Lee Whatever to Top Bucks
i don't know, it just seems wierd, and almost surreal
sorry, that was me above at post #20...for some reason it logged me out and I didn't even notice it

It is a little odd, but once you've built up a reputation with a certain nick, it's difficult to make the switch to "real" names, thereby giving people two names to try and remember...or more likely, forget the real one and go with the known nick.
That's why chosing your nick is so important. It has to be something that can carry you through career changes and not make people look at you like you're...well..."CockInAssBoy."

hahaha, yeah....
I have always been partial to the real name, or nickname, thing......
Hiring John Smith just sounds so much more professional to me than hiring HappyPeeker...well, you get the idea
I even have a heard time calling people by their board nicks in person, i feel all wierd....
are other industries like this with the whole board nick thing?

The only other board I've ever been active on is the resoundingly non adult neopets dot com. We all had nicks, but called each other by our real first names...very confusing for new people who joined the guild. :)
I'm generally always called "Morgan" in person - like at conventions, etc., and in phone calls - althought that isn't my name. I must admit that the few people who do know my real name and address me by it make me very happy. It's to the point now that when somebody called out "Morgan!" in the grocery store...I turned around. It was for someone else, of course. I imagine this comes from having a nick that actually is a name.
When Steady called me and left a message on my phone to say that my new hosting acount (http://www.elitehosters.com/) had been set up, he addressed me by my real name, causing my heart to melt, which is why I made such a fuss about it on the board. :)

I can picture that. Oh, how I can picture that. I imagine the judge tapped his gavel a few times. Or did he/she just fling it through the air at Meat's head? (Must have given the court reporter quite a turn, too. Hearing "Nickatilynx" spoken for the first time then attempting to spell it must have been in the reporter's personal "highlights" reel of "you wont't believe what happened today!" things.) :)
I mentally called you "NICK-at-uh-links" for a while before I finally asked you how to pronounce it. :)

Is it out yet?
Because now it's stuck in mine. :hmm:
It would be just damned unfair if it were stuck in both of our heads.
