This Screwed up City I live in!!!

The city manager or city screwup announced 2 days ago that our city water supply was contaminated with ecoli and fecal matter and not to shower, brush your teeth, drink the water out of the tap, etc... Today, they made another announcement that the water passed the tests. What do you guys think? Could they have really cleaned up the whole water supply in just one day?

I can't remember where I read it, but I remember some official who knows about the water system saying that it would take weeks (plural) to get the water clean again in new orleans once the systems were working. They'd need to run and run and run it (like flushing water through your pool filter) until it seemed to be clean, then fill it up and shock the entire system with chlorine, then flush it all again, then fill it up and do a test on it - it should be okay at that point but the testing would tell for sure. I think he put it at a month's time, I know he said weeks.

Two days isn't realistic for ecoli, much less fecal matter. If it's just ecoli they could shock it, but if it's fecal matter they'll have to flush it, shock it, flush it until it's clean. Think of a pool filter, with algae being the ecoli and shit being shit. A good blast of chlorine would kill off the algae, but wouldn't get rid of the little pieces of shit that were stuck in there.
Personally I wouldn't trust it this soon.
