View Full Version : Leaving the Old Programs Behind. No More Hot Dog or Paint Shop Pro..

I am in the process of dumping the html editor I have been using (either this one or Web Edit Pro) Hot DogPro.. for 8 years... Same for graphics, I am dumping the 'coveted' paint shop pro 9 and going to get a licensed version of Adobe for graphics.

I opened up Dreamweaver looks confusing as shit, lol ...

I already know Adobe is confusing as shit but it seems paint shop pro is getting that way too so I might as well be using the best.

Does anyone have any tips on lightening up the learning curve? For example a favorite site you have bookmarked that has tutorials for beginners-advanced on these two programs? Almost considering taking a local community college course on the two to get to know both very well as the more I try to start up web sites, the more I realize my html is outdated and I need to haev at least a basic knowledge of how to do graphics of some sort.

Thoughts ?

If you're used to Hot Dog -- sheesh, haven't heard of that baby in a long time! -- switch to Home Site, Ryan. That's what I did about eight years ago (LOL) when I changed after Hot Dog.

Trust me. It's more what you want than those confusing Front Page / Dreamweaver things that are virtually impossible to hand-edit.

Why pay $500 more for Photoshop when PSP will do it just as well?

Just remembered, didn't Microsoft release some beta that's targeting PhotoShop but it's free?

Thanks Newton

Dravyk, is CSS easy to work with in that? I did just pay $50 for Dream Weaver since it is known to be the industry standard.. But if Home Page has everything I need and is similar to Hot Dog or Web Edit then I will pry try that out too.. So far what i have learned in .css it is pretty much a standard text file so I assume most editors have basic support but Dream Weaver has integrated support of some sort for it...

As far as paying that much for Adobe... No way I'm paying that much.. I'll pay $100 for it most likely.. The guy I talked to last night said he thought he should have a copy in some time today as he just ran out of the last few copies he had... Basically pre used software people sell him, he resells.. Not 100% legal as the original user could still be using it but if I have all the documentations etc as far as I'm concerned - legal enuf for me :)

I'll have to check out that microsoft thing, but again the reason I was going to use Adobe is it is pretty much the industry standard... I have my work cut out for me though as I truly suck beyond all belief at graphics, I had fun with .css last night though - It is pretty damn Bad Ass !! I think I should be able to pick it up in a week or so with a solid knowledge of it.

Graphics OTOH - I have my work cut out for me ... LOL

Dravyk, is CSS easy to work with in that?Well, I'm working with an older one. Version 4.0 and no CSS in it.

Now, that said, I once upgraded to the 5.0 and it had CSS Wizards in it. Had a lot of other great stuff too. Problem was, I was only doing adult free sites and old-stype TGP galleries and the like at the time. We make them plain, no fancy stuff, no marquees, DHTML, CSS ... so I took it out and went back to the 4.0.

Now I think I should maybe upgrade, as with the mainstream stuff, I'm needing to do and to learn a lot of this crap, especially the CSS for templated sites and CMS's.

Look's like it's up to 5.0 now: http://www.macromedia.com/software/homesite/

Wow Hotdog is quite the blast from the past. I remember how that thing builds tables, and MAN it's completely idiotic compared to Dreamweaver. It was quite frustrating.

Innovative for it's time, but a real peice of shit nowadays.

I do it by hand, then I know if there where any fuck-up's then it was me and not a proggy ;)

Plus I can type html, css and the likes faster than I can proper words... which is freaky :scratchin
