This is a thought that just occurred to me, and so I think I'm going to make a thread about it...

I'm just thinking about Bush's speech or statement or whatever, where he said the Government would do their part, and that they were calling on the private sector (ie the citizens of the US) to do their part.

No offense to humankind, but we're sheep for the most part, people play 'follow the leader' and in this case, Bush & his merry men are the "leader"

The international response to this was (in my opinion) far swifter than the "American" response (Please don't take that as a personal attack if you're american, I'm just too lazy to type out gov't) ...unfortunately on Thursday, Bush made the statement "We will take care of our own" (I've heard he has since accepted some of the offers by the 24 countries he declined & offended on Thursday). On Friday, he issued the statement that the response to the disaster was unacceptable.

People & countries all over the world donated huge amounts to the Tsunami, almost to the point that it was starting to look like a "who can outdo each other" competitive sport...

I've seen people raging that the government "wasn't doing its job" with this, and I agree. I've seen people fighting back that "things take time" ...and I agree with that too, but I can't help but wonder if the lax response (whatever the reason behind it) has led to the private sector also having a lax response...

Thoughts?

private sector has kicked in a TON of cash already, as well as strangers taking in families, volunteering their time, equipment and services. In all fairness, I think the private sector has done far more then government has so far. Aide isn't just dumping money on people, sure they can foot up 10.5B 4 days later, but there's just way more that's be *done* privately IMHO
