View Full Version : A wet and windy morning here
I hope everyone on the south Florida east coast is doing ok.
Katrina has skirted around us, so we've just got heavy wind and light showers right now, but we should be getting the heavy rain later in the day.

You gotta knock this off, Red. You're scaring a certain Californian shitless. :)

I was watching the storm on TV and thinking about you guys as a matter of fact. I thought you guys had to be feeling something from it.
I'm told that it's expected to hop into the gulf, so I guess I should watch to see if it does...
Knowing me though, I'll probably be watching it anyway. I like to keep a close eye on them when ever they are close, you know, you never really know what they're going to do...

WT...it's a shame you don't live closer. We could consume brown liquor and mutter "why the FUCK do they have to live in FLORIDA?!?!?!?!?" a lot. :)

:biglaugh: Ah, but I don't... Instead, I live not too far away from Florida... In another favorite path of hurricanes.
They said this season was going to be bad... So far, they seem to almost be one right after another.
Poor Red over there has been hit a few times this season... The most I've gotten so far though has been a little rain and some clouds, so we've been lucky so far this season.
Hopefully it won't get too much worse. :)

:biglaugh: Now why would you want to go and do that?! Isn't not being in the path of danger a GOOD thing?
Then again... We do have some pretty wicked hurricane parties... :)
The day has been very gray, completely overcast. The winds have been picking up all day. We moved the car away from under the palm tree. Coconuts falling on your hood leaves quite a dent.
As of 3:00 this afternoon the storm was here. it's hard to tell if it's going to head up or out towards LA. It's going to be gaining strength hanging out in the gulf though.

Oh.
Stay the hell indoors Red and fuck the car.
People have died from falling trees.

It's not too bad really. It's windy, but so far we've only had a few short bursts of light rain.

Yeah, I'll be watching this one for sure... I may have jinxed myself when I said we haven't gotten anything too bad yet this season... :biglaugh:

Yeah, I think I may have jinxed myself, just a little bit... :biglaugh:
Well, if you guys don't see me some time during the next couple of days... I've probably lost my power...
Everything is closed here now. You can't even get pizza delivered! :( Today they also changed all of the interstates to go out of the state, so there really isn't any getting into the city right now.
The Mayor has been on the local news telling everybody to get out now and said that the hurricane director told him that he hasn't seen anything like this storm in all of his 33 years of doing this.
Right now, we're all kind of sitting on edge waiting to see how bad it's going to be. There's such a thin margin where if it goes more to the West the damage to New Orleans will be MUCH worse than if it goes a little more East...
And, the city is kind of like a fish bowl, with water on three different sides. There's the Gulf, the Lake, and the Mississippi river... The big fear right now is that if this thing hits us the wrong way, New Orleans will be flooded with about 20 feet of water, which they say will take 6 months just to get the water out of the city...
So, I guess all we can do now is sit and wait...
