Bush is such a piece of shit :)

you get elected for 8 years and you need to take a monthlong vacation in the middle of a "war" to make sure your mind is "crisp". He simply amazes me, and I don't know why middle america thinks he represents them, the guy came from one of the wealthiest families in the country.

so what happens when he comes back, does he get "caught up"? Are the operations running on cruise control, and if they are, how much input does he have into it anyways? Or is it just that everything gets put on hold until he comes back...

Note: I don't have a problem with him taking a vacation, I have a problem with him taking a 5-week vacation. If you want to go away, go away for a week, not 5.

Vacations are healthy. Without them you burn out. How long has he been in office before he went away? How much work before that.

He has staff. And I am sure he keeps in touch. World problems arise 24/7...

The French average seven weeks of paid vacation a year - they have also lost countless wars - I'm beginning to see a pattern ;-)))

Says a lot about how much time presidents have been on vacationGreat article, Jeff!

For those too lazy to click, here's the facts from the article:

Carter, Dem. - 79 days off
Reagan, Rep. - 335 days off
Bush Sr., Rep. - 543 days off
Clinton, Dem. - 152 days off
Bush Jr., Rep. - 250 days off ... so far - 27% of his presidency on vacation

Gee, a pattern emerges. What a surprise. Not. ^_^

The article is from 2003

Scary was Bush Sr. 543 days in one term - There is not Doubt W will go way over the top - aparently republicans need more vacation than democrats do.

To be fair I am betting these numbers are for the total days off - since it is a 24/7 job weekends are work days so with that factored in the Average working guy getting 2 weeks vacation and some sick/personal days has 125 days off a year - so looking at it that way even W has less time off than your average worker.

What a bunch of idiots. On a message board that caters to ONLINE porn webmasters, you would think a few people would grasp the concept of modern communication.

The White House is where the President is at any moment. He has the ability to communicate with everyone in the world, our military, top advisors, world leaders, etc....

I saw Bush gave a speech yesterday in Iowa? Was that part of the vacation.

Bush leaves himself open for a lot of attacks, but this one is really weak.... Just shows that hate trumps reason.

Exactly. I know except for Jamaica I've not had a "vacation" where I didn't work at least some of the times (even in Jamaica I worked by not online ;) ). And the Prez has even more access than I do, lol!

It's not like he's dropped out of sight/contact like vacations USED to be.....

I agree with MikeAI. Until anyone here is a world leader, I dont want to hear a damn thing like "Oh man, look at that lazy bastard taking a vacation!!". I would think that there is no real 'vacation' when you are president of the United States. People get stressed out at their menial, meaningless, go-nowhere nothing jobs and can take vacations/sabbaticals etc.. You really think he can go shotgun cans of Bud at the old ranch and just forget about all the world's problems? I dont think so.. its a 24/7 kind of job.

Some of my best thinking is done in my privat time on the toilet, I also know alot of people who also have their best thinking at that place... which makes me wonder how many of the world´s problems that have been solved, while someone have been taking a shit, and how much better the world would be, if people in the 3rd world had good comfortable toilets instead of a hole in the ground ;-)))

Mike you're absolute right! We should start a petition and have the government sell the White House! From now on, every president should live on the beach with a cellphone and a PDA and conduct business from there. http://oprano.com/msgboard/images/smilies/ok.gif

Let him take his vacation in peace. Don't picket outside his ranch with your self serving agendas. Let the man have some downtime. Nothing wrong with a little vacation. Plus, it's not like he can forget about world issues, being the President of the United States is akin to being a parent. Even when you're on vacation, you're not relieved of your responsibilities and duties. Plus, the President is the figurehead of a cabinet who's still working under his direction in his absence.

Some vacation...It's more like a working vacation. The President is not sitting
back doing nothing and fishing all day. Our comander and chief is taking
care of business.

The only difference is he is doing it in the comfort of his home/ranch. Like so
many working americans. Who ever thinks the president is sitting on his
posterior and not minding the store is an idiot.

As much as it pains me to say this, I have to agree with Mike on this one.

Bush can do just as much damage from Texas or Iowa or Bumfuck as he can from D.C.

I think I can safely say that without damaging my credentials as a bonafide Bush-basher.

While I take pride in jumping on bush any chance I get - I will agree with Mike and PD, vacations are no real big deal to me.

Why do you think our primary - general election process is so tough and grueling.. You have to make sure the person who gets elected can handle heat, pretty much 24/7 for 4 years. If you can't take getting beat up when your running for prez, wait till you get elected.

On a side note, Even know Clinton like to goto Martha's Vin in the summer and stuff, he used to say work was more important than taking vacations.

His brain was always on the go :)

and not his pecker :) LOL

This reminds me of the bullshit some people still insist on spreading about Bush's actions in the immediate aftermath of 9/11. Anybody with half a brain should know that the contingency plans for an attack on the U.S. have included getting the President to a safe location since the days of Eisenhower, if not Truman. Going back to D.C. that night showed more balls than brains.

Doesn't mean I don't think he's the antiChrist ... remember, even a broken clock is right twice a day.

and the Bush "vacation" is a good thing no matter how you look at it

Bush haters can take relief that Bush is further away from the little red button (shhh don't tell about the "football") and away from the day to day of DC, less likely to step on his dick

Bush supporters can say it's well deserved and it's not really a vacation but more of a working holiday

seriously, like there isnt a waroom and a sitroom at the crawford ranch, like hes out of touch, on the beach. please. some countries leaders spend their entire term on vacation, some work really hard, because a day not hustled is a dollar earned. Bush is on the job, no matter where he is. the vacation question is stupid. effectiveness is another question

Use it as fertilizer with your potatoes, and then invite your ex wife/girlfriend, worst enemy etc. to a peace offering dinner at your place... tip! do not eat the potatoes yourself - it will ruin the fun ;-))

im bumping this for a reason, look at the dates of the thread, think about recent events. conservatives will say its liberal babble. I say it says a lot about his mentality and competence towards the job.

this can go back and forth all day.
