No reason why they shouldn't recieve monies/gifts for the random posts, if they then choose to donate them to others or place them back into the draw, then that is their choice.

I used to be a mod (that didn’t last long) on a small avs board and when I won prizes, I refused them - it just "looks" bad in my opinion - the appearance of using a contest to take care of your own is undeniable. I prefer to keep the business aspects squeaky clean regardless of board frackas'.

I doubt anyone really cares about a hundred bucks tho. If you wanna take care of the dorks doing work for you - slip them a little extra quietly. Most people aren’t gonna blow a gasket over it but it does make things look fishy, whether or not they really are.

In the scheme of things $100 to a mod seems no biggie....

But, this is Oprano. What makes it different?

The per capita income on this board, well, hmm, this board is more like Palm Beach, not Myrtle Beach, not even Jones Beach (a city beach in NYC's the Bronx)

This isn't a gimme board. It's not a pay per post board. It's not a newbie how-do-I-make-money-board. It's not a sig whore board. Considering the audience here a hat, a Tshirt, a C-Note is nothing. On other boards it's manna to starving webmaster failures.

It's all fair game. I never quite agreed with employees, associates, contractors or family members of a company running a contest not being qualified. I know it will stifle criticism should one of their own win, but I have no problem with that. As long as someone wins we all win.

Thanks to Oprano for my win last week. I went to pay for a new cell phone that mysteriously crapped out on me.

I cast my vote, everyone should be able to win a prize IMO whether they're a mod or not. At the end of the day the contests are for members of the board community, so ya gotta include everyone.

It's simple.

Why do you run a contest to begin with?

1) Draw new users

2) Generate more posts

3) Reward the existing users

4) Give the sponsor of the contest some exposure

Moderators are out on #1. If they're doing their job, they're already posting (#2) and being rewarded (#3). If moderators are the only ones active on a board, #4 will quickly become a moot point.

Only good reason I can see to have moderators in a contest is if that's being used as a sneaky way to get contest sponsors to compensate your mod team.
