View Full Version : The “Oprano Lounge Tribute to Obscure Trivia” Game!

MorganGrayson
08-08-2005, 11:42 PM
In keeping with the Lounge’s dedication to provide frivolity and totally purposeless time killing, we are having a game! The rules are somewhat convoluted; the questions bring new definition to the phrase “off the wall;” the only thing simple is the prize. The winner of the game will receive a $25 Amazon.com gift certificate! (You can’t buy content with that.)

The Rules:

Each day I will post a question. The questions will require a bit of research to answer, but the answers can be found.
The first person to answer correctly wins 3 points. The second to answer wins 2 points; the third wins 1 point. What’s that you say? The second and third persons only have to copy/paste the correct answer? Good. You’re paying attention. You know that old saying “never cheat off the kid who’s dumber than you are”? All you’re going to know is that someone has posted “an” answer. You’re not going to know whether or not it’s the *correct answer,* ‘cuz I’m staying mum. So, don’t hit that copy/paste thing so quickly. Once you’ve answered it, you’ve *answered* it! No second chances, no cheating by hitting the “edit post” button. Do the research! The first person to post an answer just might have posted the *wrong* answer! To the one in the back row waving his hand: would I be so sneaky as to have a shill deliberately post the wrong answer? Of course not. That doesn’t mean somebody else might be so tempted!
There are 10 of the weirdest questions in the world. One for each day for 11 days. OK, we pause now while some of you try and catch up and figure out the math doesn’t work. What’s the 11th day for? To make sure everyone has had a chance to see the questions and to give me time to deal with the logistical nightmare of a notebook page I’ve created for myself.
The questions will be posted at different times of the day to give our global crowd a fair shot at being first to read the question.
Ah, the guy in the back row again: no, the question does *not* have to be answered on the day it’s posted. So, there’s still time to win any remaining points, be there any. If you all want to wait and go berserk on the 11th day and post all of your answers, g’head. I wouldn’t recommend it, but I serve imaginary beverages in here, so what do I know.
The guy in the back row is starting to bug. What if he has a question, he asks. Go post it on gfy, I tell him. He starts to stand up and I speak harshly. If you have a question, post it here. (Don’t post “can we have a hint?” because I will mock you severely. *sigh* Control yourself, Trev. This means you.)
Why are we doing this? someone shouts out. (I hate that.) We’re doing it because it’s silly, it’s fun, and it’s in keeping with the purpose of the Lounge. You get a break from work while you play the game; the winner gets a further break from work browsing to buy a DVD or CDs or whatever; and even further breaks waiting for, receiving, and enjoying the purchase. (The winner is also free to mock the losers and proclaim his/herself “The Champion,” which can be fun until they all turn on you.)

Rules, Part Deux:

Something just occured to me. For multi-part questions, please don't post partial answers. :)

This game is sponsored by Written Temptations (http://www.writtentemptations.com/)!

I am the *only* one who knows the questions and anwers. :)

In the television show “The Wild, Wild West,” (US 1965-1969):

· What was the *full* name (first, middle, last) of Jim West’s arch-enemy?
· What was the vehicle on which they traveled, and what was its name?

Toby

Jim West's arch-enemy was Doctor Miguelito Quixote Loveless.

Jim West and Artemus Gordon travelled by rail in a private coach named The Nimrod.

Bhelliom

I think he meant an ultimate prize at the end

My question however, was does the quote function act the same as a copy and paste?

is gonzo the second person to answer? or am I?

MorganGrayson
08-09-2005, 01:23 PM
Oh, goodie. I didn't think I'd get to mock people quite so soon! :yowsa:

Gonzo was not playing. He quoted toby in order to place his congratulatory post.

No, you do *not* have to quote whoever you elect to copy/paste. In fact, please don't. That just makes it confusing for me, and I'm confused enough already.

TheEnforcer...:inlove: :inlove: Posting "read the rules" in all caps is considered foreplay around here. :)

So...as it stands now...first one to post *an* answer was Toby. Second to post *an* answer was Bhelliom.

I am so very happy! :happy45:

There hasn't been a decent piece of music released since 1975 :yowsa:

Bhelliom
08-15-2005, 10:54 AM
I disagree.... I will however say nothing since the 90's

there were great albums by pink floyd, metallica, the cure, the clash, GNR.... all released in the 80's that were phenomenal

Miss Australia, Michelle Guy = 6'
Miss Canada, Natalie Glebova = 5'11
Miss Russia, Natalia Nikolayeva = 5'10
Miss USA, Chelsea Cooley = 5'7

Therefore, Miss Australia is the tallest at 6 feet tall

Maybe I should practice more....

Wanna be my tutor?

MorganGrayson
08-17-2005, 03:53 PM
I used to tutor calculus, so I imagine my "tutoring" skills need just the smallest brush up.

Now be a good student and do what tutor tells you.... :yowsa:

Deal

MorganGrayson

Actually, I look back on my tutoring with great fondness. The student I was tutoring gave me one of my greatest compliments. He looked at me with near reverence and said "you're the only one who's ever explained this so that it made any sense."

I was two years older than you are now, if memory serves. My student was anywhere from 18 to 20.

One of my destined to remain unfulfilled dreams has always been a degree in mathematics. *sigh*

Ah, memories.

Bhelliom
08-17-2005, 04:18 PM
Actually funny you mention that.

I do tutor while i'm in college part time. Math actually. ANd i get that a lot. "wow the way you explained it is soo much better than the way soand so taught us" I never really learn from mmy teachers... I'm lazy at heart... I tend to take they way they show us and come up with an easier way.

It does make you feel very good to know that you can help a hot little 18 yo freshman girl out... and maybe have her thank you in a fun and exciting new way :P... not that that ever happened... but I'm a dreamer...

Seriously, I do like to help people out like that so I know exactly what you're talking about
