Does anyone have any suggestions regarding cameras .. I am in the market for a digital body with a decent lens and it's just for personal use, but I like quality images at high res and quick shutter speed. The type of camera that is perfect for blackmailing the neighbours from a distance.

Nikon D70.

Or if you want to pinch off a few pennies, Canon Digital Rebel.

Yeah there is also a Nikon D50 out now as well...cheapest pro-sumer line.

I'm waiting to replace my old Pro-body Nikon D1h and D1 with a new Nikon D2x...the new D2x is only 5grand at present but it should come down to around $3,500 in a year or so and than I can finally trade my old battleships off for the new breed of Nikon.

Good article on the D2x...my next baby;

Yeah the Canon 20D is a GREAT camera and the frame rate is awesome. My only problem with the camera is I was with a photographer friend of mine who has just bought a new 20d to replace his ageing Nikon D-100.

We took some shots of his wifes new wedding ring with the exact same 24mm Micro Lenses...at the exact same camera settings...the Old Nikon D-100 blew the Canon 20D away in color and picture clarity.

To the non-trained eye though...you would never know the differance.

The truth is if I didn't have $10,000 dollars worth of Nikon glass I would be shooting with a Canon 20d as well though...because dollar for dollar it really is the best deal around...I wished Nikon would pull their head out of their asses and try to compete.

It does seem to offer more than the Nikon in the specs .. the 20D is the favourite and thanks man ;) Looks like that's the one I will be getting :okthumb:

I recent purchased the Cannon PowerShot A95. Sweet little 5 megapixel. Takes everything at 2000xsomething. Size it down to something manageable like 800xsomething and it's so clean and clear it's amazing. Has a built in telephoto (short range, comporable to maybe 135 or 200 lens), a wide angle and a macro that's nice for shooting products for eBay or whatever. So we're not talking high-end, but again the quality is outstanding for my needs. Cost around US$300.
