I'm wanting to get my head further into PHP when I get the time - that's the killer though, only 24 hours in a day when I need 25 :(

Anything :yowsa:

I write in php, asp, vb, fox right now. Work with Mysql, sql_server and fox databases on a pretty much everyday basis.

I pretty much figure that anyone that would be looking for anything would be looking for php and mysql.

But I'll yak about anything I know (and a lot that I don't :yowsa: )

OK...hypothetically speaking...let's suppose that someone had a freebie asp script for a linksite and knew absolutely nothing about that sort of thing and was contemplating - due to a severe head injury as a child - putting a small linksite on one of their domains. Could an intelligent conversation result between you, who know so many things, and this *someone* who knows...well...let's just say she posts well.

OK, you are now entering "Why the Hell Did I Offer to Help??" territory. :awinky:

It basically says just upload the thing and you're good to go.
I uploaded.
I didn't go.
Does it need to be in one of the numerous folders that my host would most likely have a stroke if I touched in order to work?

hmm..

Ok. first of all..and just trying to make sure, but...

This is a windows server we are talking right ?

If ASP is turned on on the server, you should be able to run it from any domain space, unless your host has gone with a strange configuration where they don't have it turned on in all domain space.

So, what is it that the script is supposed to do ?

Hey Gonz :)

I don't know. I don't do much with programming books other than use them to keep my end table level. But there are some good books out there I'm sure for anyone that learns better by book. I usually figure stuff out by trial and error combined with existing knowledge. That works for me because I have a programming background and as far as programming goes, coding is coding, it's just a matter of learning the syntax of the language that you are using.

For the most part, the "books" I reference myself are: The php manual (http://www.php.net/manual/en/) and the MYSql manual (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/mysql/en/index.html)

I have both of these downloaded and available from my desktop and they are usually open when I am writing any php/MYSql stuff. But again, if you have a programming background then you know what you want to say usually and you can just go straight to the language reference to figure out how to say it in php/MYSql.

The php manual does have a nice little getting started tutorial in it at http://www.php.net/manual/en/tutorial.php It takes you through a simple "hello world" script and also shows how to look at the various phpinfo available on your server and then takes you through a couple of little "useful" scripts. It is as good a place to start as any :)
