I could take the bus downtown with my friends to see a matinee movie, and do it all for about $1.25 (Canadian).

Bus was 15 cents
Movie was 75 cents
Remaining 35 cents would handle popcorn and other goodies.

by the way, in 1974 the Canadian dollar's value exceeded that of it's US counterpart.

When I first started smoking, cigarettes were 50 cents a pack. When I first started driving, gas was 29 cents a gallon. Oh how times have changed.

Smokes were 95 cents when I first started buying them.
I remember when we here in Canada moved to litres at the pumps. The first listed prices were 20 cents a litre.

I was reading the Terry Brooks book The Sword of Shanarra over the weekend, 1st edition from 1977 or 78, and the cover price was $3.95. I have few few Piers Anthony books that were $2.99 as well!

When I started smoking in 1973, smokes were only 45 cents for a pack of 20!

The first blue jeans I bought in USSR were equal of 1 month salary
The first jeans I bought in USA were less than an hour salary.

I saw a documentary awhile back that did a study on the hockey players who played in that famous "Summit Series" in 1972.

For those who don't know, it was *THE* hockey contest between Canada and the USSR. An 8 game series with 4 games held in Canada, and 4 in Russia.

The study showed that all the Canadian players involved in that series all eventually went on to retire quite nicely as rich men, while the Russian players (save one or two) went on to live much less than wealthy and comfortable lives, with a handful of them even ending up broke and penniless.

Relative indeed. :(

Cool.

I'll have to check out the newest ones... haven't read those
Thanks man appreciate it.

Also I don't know if you've read them or if we've talked about it already but George RR Martins series "A song of fire and ice" is finally releasing the fourth book. been waiting for that one for years.

If you haven't read that series check it out. I'd imagine you'd enjoy it

I love "series" books, but I must admit I've rarely broken out of the mystery/thriller/suspense/legal type genres.

Can anyone tell me what genres the listed books are? (I love finding new books!)

They're mostly fantasy Morgan... kings and queens and wars, nights, battles and good times.

the shanarra series that TE was talking about is fantasy as well but involves elves and dwarves and humans and trolls etc

both series are excellent
