Whether Favre is too interception-prone to win another Super Bowl will be proven on the field, but a comparison with the two other major quarterbacks of his era, John Elway and Dan Marino, show he’s been both a better playmaker and a bigger risk taker than they were at comparable stages in their careers.

Over the last five years, all with Sherman as coach, Favre has thrown 141 touchdown passes and 85 interceptions. By comparison, Elway in his 10th to 14th NFL seasons threw 103 touchdowns and 65 interceptions, and Marino threw 103 touchdowns to 60 interceptions.

The more telling comparison is the percentage of their pass attempts that were touchdowns and interceptions, because Favre had substantially more attempts than Elway and Marino over that span.

Favre’s threw touchdowns on 5.3 percent of his passes from years 10 to 14, compared with Marino’s 4.7 percent and Elway’s 4.1 percent. But Favre also had a measurably higher interception rate of 3.2 percent to Marino’s 2.8 percent and Elway’s 2.7 percent. It’s also worth noting the team’s records and playoff performances during those seasons — none of the three clubs made it to a Super Bowl. From Elway’s 10th to 14th seasons, the Broncos were 45-35 (56.3 winning percentage), won one division title, qualified for the playoffs twice and went 0-2 in the postseason. Marino’s Dolphins were 47-33 (58.8 winning percentage), won two division titles, qualified for the playoffs twice and were 2-2 in the postseason, including a loss in the AFC championship. The Packers over the past five seasons were 53-27 (71.3 percent), won three division titles, qualified for the playoffs four times and went 2-4 in the postseason.

I've always been a Brett Favre fan. He is a good old boy, from the great state of Mississippi. He will have a very good season. Towards the middle of the 2005 season I think all fans will see a much different and better Brett Favre. In November the Pack will face the Philadelphia Eagles in the city of "brotherly love", that will be his true test. I still beleave in the good old boy...

The Pack will be in the play-offs. How far with they get in the play-off? We shall see.

ps: Let's not talk about pre-season...That's bullshit. I was a season ticket holder for DA BOYS for 13 seasons and you never see the real talent on the field past the first possession.

How can you compare QB unless you factor in and compare the overall strength/weakness of the team they played for and against????

These are simply moronic statistics.
