Welcome! :bwave:

This is the thread to ask your questions. Don't be afraid to ask, either.

If it makes you feel more comfortable to lurk for a while, do it.
If it makes you feel more comfortable to just drop into the Oprano Lounge and say "hello" for a while to get the feel of posting on the board before you ask questions, do that.

We're here to help. :okthumb:

This particular forum has some serious policies that *will* be enforced.

One. This is a "no piss" zone. There will be *no* personal attacks of any kind. None. Zip. Nada.

Two. Novice webmasters: there is no such thing as a "stupid question." Every single person on the adult 'net was once a beginner. Please do not hesitate to ask your questions, ask for help...and do not be afraid while you do it. No one will insult you or laugh at you.

Three. If you can find someone who says "I wasn't nervous the first time I posted on a message board" you are entitled to raise an eyebrow and make a rude noise.

Four. Be aware that *all* webmasters have questions about things they don't know, whether they've been doing this for 8 days or 8 years.

Again, welcome to Oprano...business and relaxation...it's all here for you. :okthumb:

Just because your in the business a long time doesnt mean you cant take advantage of this forum to get answers on something you have little experience with. I look forward to seeing the questions and answers in the future.

The most important questions I need to ask after 9 yrs in the business are..

to a finacial advisor:

What would be the best investments to make?
What is the best way to minimise my tax liability?

to a shrink:

Why do I still do this?

To a bank:

Any chance of becoming a 3rd party processor?

:)

Okay, my first question !

Right - I submit galleries to TGPs. At present although I own my own domain, www.hard-hot-porn.com, I don't actually have a TGP set up. I'm aware that this means I'm missing out because I have enough content sitting there on a server to populate a small site. I'm keen to change this situation but I have no real idea about where to start.

My question is this - where should I start when it comes to learning about how to set up a TGP ? I'd be happy starting small, i.e. just running a "fake" TGP that basically just rotates my galleries and doesn't receive submissions from other webmasters. I would need to start completely from scratch, anyone have any recommendations ?

Hi domtheboy :)

Welcome to the board.

A quick and easy way to get started is to go over to remotethumbs
(http://www.remotethumbs.com) and set up a an account and then follow the instructions.

What that will do is give you a prepopulated gallery pool of sponsors free hosted galleries, all with your aff code in them, that will automatically get put onto your server each day.

You set up a couple of pages that use ssi calls to put the downloaded galleries into your page and voila instant tgp.

This would give you something to get immediate traffic to while you learn the ins and outs of the tgp game.

Best part of it is it only costs you a 1% skim. In addition, you can sign up for any sponsors that have galleries they carry right from their site (they get the affiliate credit on it, but who cares)

I have a couple of remotethumbs fed stuff in place:

http://www.sexeducatoon.com is an image thumb fed from there and www.titsasspuss.com is a text fed (I modified out so I am not showing images just to cover the 2257 shit) version fed from remote thumbs.

Like I say, it is a quick and easy way to get started.

Another good point on their side is that Boldy, Inabon and Joesho who own remotethumbs are always around here and are very good at giving individual help and advice :)

Hope you stay around and have fun... In fact I would encourage you to go introiduce yourself in the lounge (if you have not already).

Again, welcome to the mix :)

LOL no problem, it's always nice to get a warm welcome even if I've had one before :)

I've signed up with remote thumbs and am just having a read through the literature now. It sounds interesting but I'm not 100% sure I understand how it works, so probably best if I take a look at the support forum to see where to get started. If you take a look at my domain (name is above) you'll see that at the moment it just displays a list of folders (all the galleries I have submitted so far) - this is probably going to be the dumbest question ever - am I going to need to install and configure some TGP script/software on my server before I can make use of the remote thumbs service ?

You will not need to install a tgp script per se. You can run the tgp through straight html code no problem. But, you will have to set some permissions on folders, set up some folders and allow remote thumbs to install some stuff on your server.

It looks confusing at first, but once you do it for one niche you will find it easier and easier.

Follow the instructions and then once you think you are all set, there will be "test" button for you for each niche you set up and that will tell you about any issues.

If you want to do it tonight, I will be in and out of the board all night. I am trying to put something together that I promised to a crazy russian guy I would have last Friday, so I will be working, but I take liberal breaks :)

For a starting point, you could go to remotethumbs, log in and then start setting up your sponsor codes.

Once you log in, on the left menu you will see a link to "My sponsors" click through and you will be presented a list of sponsors that they have galleries for.

Go through and identify any existing sponsors you have and fill in the info needed so that they get your aff code into the links properly.

I would reccomend you have at least 10 sponsors set up. If you don't already belong to 10 programs that they have galleries for then go through and sign up for some more. The 10 sponsors is so that you will have a variety of galleries feeding the site. The more sponsors, the more galleries for the program to choose from :)

I was just reinvestigating remotethumbs and I realized I misspoke earlier, I had forgotten that one of the steps is to download a script at a certain point. This you just ftp up to your server and set the folder with the necessary permissions, so it is not a big deal, but yes, in answer to the first question, there is a script involved. But like I said, it's not a big deal :)

while we are doing this, we need to get you some .htaccess protection on your server. You don't want to leave it open like that.

everyone was new once, and some made it, and some burned out, I would say this upon reflecton, use your ears and eyes and really pay attention and you will go far .
