My mastiff Zoe had a litter of pups almost 2 weeks ago. I know there are lots of dog lovers here so I thought I'd post some pics. :)

11 pups, we had to put one down because of a cleft palate...the rest are doing awesome. :)

4 girls, 7 boys (1 boy lost)

2 - brindle
2 - fawn
6 - apricot

I’m far from a dog lover as I’ve got an unnatural fear of them but I’ve just got to say them are the cutest things I’ve seen.

Congratulations :D

Vooman's boardtracker should be going off :)

Gorgeous pups, Gigi! They're like large pugs. I'll take 2

Thanks guys :)

LOL peaches...yeah, they DO look like big pugs...haha. The light fawn male is the one I have my eye on...he was the largest when they were born, but now there are a couple of girls over-taking his size. It's amazing how quickly they are growing...even looking at these pics they are SOOO much bigger already!

I swear my first small breed will be a pug.... I still have alot of research to do on pugs though...I don't know a HUGE amount....not like the research I've done on Mastiffs and Boxers.

Got any good pug info websites I can take a look at?

http://www.rescuepug.com is our local pug rescue site (where I got Ferdinand and Meg from). They have some "pug info" and there are some links there to other pug sites too :)

Thanks Andrew :) They're all beautiful and we are proud....but we know all too well how quickly they grow into big messy hooligans who just want to eat, play and sleep...

But, we're prepared....hopefully prepared enough. :zoinks:

Keep taking pictures and posting them. I'd like to keep up with their progress. :)

Honestly I wish I had heard.

Whilst on holiday my Golden Retreiver , Lucy suffered a brain tumour. :(

(Ironically it was during the lack of medical treatment debate on oprano.

You can have MRIs nd catscans done on a dog in Canada within 2 hours (it costs) and yes , they use human ones)

I could have picked up a puppy from you to cheer my kids up. :)

Instead I bought a golden retreiver in Toronto , came up with some bullshit ...and viola!!!

The staff at the Four Seasons Toronto were soooo cool too , and the Fairmont Lake Louise

They brought trays , bowls and pillows for "molly"

Crying , sad , people were all smiles again :)

Gigi your puppies are amazing.

I have an male (english mastiff) who I will be studding out... he is gorgeous and sound.. and a male french mastiff who isn't sound but an amazing dog...

I really want to eventually breed French...

Your thread has been a reminder & inspiration...

Good luck! I can't imagine having so many puppies to look after.. especially english mastiff puppies :wnw: hehehe

On the other hand, Gigi ... Very cool! Congrats!! :bdance:

Gigi... the puppies made me smile. There is nothing on earth like 'puppy breath'. These are adorable. And I'll second Vooman's request to keep the pics coming so we can monitor their progress.

Nick... I am so sorry to hear about your dog. It is like losing a member of your family. I know the new addition you have will be a comfort to you during this time. That sounds sappy... but you know what I mean.

LOL....yeah, we know all too well how quickly they change and grow. We had a litter of 10 boxers almost 10 years ago...it's been a while, but you never forget the stampede to the door when it's dinner time...and the MESS those cute little things make as they grow.

So far, we've got it all planned out....but as things progress we'll how on the mark we are and where we need to adjust our plan..hahaha

I'll certainly post more pics as they grow and keep you all up to date :)

Awwe Nick, I am sooooo sorry to hear about Lucy. Losing a dog is like losing a family member. We know all too well the pain involved. We've lost a few along the way ourselves. :(

I'm so glad your family is happy with the new pup! Good luck with her! :)

That's awesome about the hotels! Usually they are sticklers about pets....good to hear you had a good experience with them! I'll have to keep a note of the ones you mentioned if we're ever in the need for a 'pet friendly' hotel. :)

ps - Lake Louise is awesome, eh?

Very cool colette!

When you say 'french mastiff' you mean the Dogue De Bordeaux, correct? They are soooo cool! Any pics of your babies??

Breeding dogs is a wonderful experience, but also very expensive and STRESSFUL!! I was soooo worried about Zoe when she went into whelp....and we did have a few problems. She had the first 7 and we thought she was done...2 hours later she started pushing again...but nothing....so we brought her in and sure enough, an x-ray showed 4 more pups. They gave her a shot of oxytocin and on the way home she had 2 more right in my truck...haha. The last 2 were born at home safe and sound. But I tell you, it was VERY scary....a c-section for my baby wasn't a fun thought. (not to mention the $1000 price tag)

And losing the one pup to a cleft palate was hard as well. I hate losing even one pup...I'm far too emotional when it comes to animals....I'd make a horrible vet...haha

I had to resuscitate 2 of the pups, too. Tried the rub down, then the gentle swing from arms length down through the legs. (the centrifugal force pulls out any fluid in the lungs) It wasn't working so I went to my last resort and had to 'suck out' the crap from their lungs....it wasn't exactly pleasant, and I gagged a few times...haha....BUT, I did it and they are a-okay now. :)

There's alot to know and deal with when breeding....BUT, once the 'do or die' time is over and everyone is fine, all the stress, the work, and the money are overshadowed by wonderful, healthy, happy dogs. :)

It's sooooo worth it...you just have to be the 'right' kind of person....you will love it!! :)

Yes the DDB... I wanted to start out with one and the night before I got him I saw a local ad for the English Pick Male... I had to go check him out. He was only 6 weeks old and staying with the Couple who had the Male... They looked uneasy with him and so I had to snatch him up.. and so glad I did!

I noticed you had said one had a cleft palet and I did wonder how the rest of the delivery went. Sounds like you definitely had your hands full. I hear it is a pretty risky process with such big puppies and litters that Mastiffs seem to have.

My biggest concern is finding enough really good homes for the number of puppies in the litters.

I now the DDB's aren't very common and there are maybe 3 breeders in the 5 states surrounding where I live... not many. We get people asking about him all the time and where they can get one.. and I am in a pretty much upper middle class area with stay at home moms & families... that is a little better... but still.. its a worry.

We will be getting a female in the next two years... our "Boys" are now 3 1/2 ... although they might look a bit younger as we like to keep them lean...

http://cxsites.com/dogs.jpg
and if you want... and for others to see the growing process..
http://cxsites.com/dog_1.jpg

I have had other breeds before but there is something about these Mastiffs that are just amazing... : )

thanks for sharing your pups!

Colette, those dogs are gorgeous. But then, I am partial to Mastiffs.

Peaches is going to complain that I never have any new pictures to show, but my sister hasn't sent me any for a long time. I'll have to stick with the ones I have at http://www.vooman.com/dogs/. Unfortunately, all the dogs have passed on with the exception of Brock who is featured in thisdogishuge.jpg.

They are such a wonderful breed. :)

If I didn't have to worry about the size limits places put on bringing dogs, I'd get a mastiff in a heartbeat (WITH a pug, lol!). They are great dogs. I have a friend in Norway who breed both. I always try to send Vooman the pictures she sends me :)

Awwwe, Colette your dogs are BEAUTIFUL!!! I love your Bordeaux...he's gorgeous! Hmm, now you have me thinkin'..... :P

Andrew, I always love seeing pics of your pups....and yes, your big boy is BIG!! How much does he weigh?? MUST be close to the 200lb range!!! He is absolutely GORGEOUS!!

We'll be keeping one of the male pups and then buying another female soon after that. But, maybe we'll look into Bordeauxs now, too...hehe

Yeah, that Bordeaux is a cutie. I love the picture at 9 weeks.

Gigi, Brock is the biggest Mastiff I have ever seen. He is taller and has a longer body than any of them. About a year ago he was weighed and he was 250 pounds. My brother in law tries to keep him on the thin side because he's got arthritis, but even the vet said "I can't believe this dog is 250. He's actually thin for his structure."

Brock is a big boy. And not one trace of alpha male at all. He is a big mushyface.

The Bordeaux's are amazing... I really love both of them and their personalities are a bit different as well as their athletic abilities, the differences in the way they play, run... etc... and ours doesn't nearly have as "wet" of a mouth as the English....

I know of a few really good breeders (and one to definitely stay away from) if you are interested...

It is too bad they don't stay that small and cute.

Steve, I believe most people who have these types of dogs don't mind that they don't stay small lol...

but yes... as puppies they are very very cute...
