Justice Sandra Day O'Connor, the first woman appointed to the Supreme Court and a key swing vote on issues such as abortion and the death penalty, said today she is retiring. O'Connor, 75, said she will leave before the start of the court's next term in October, or when the Senate confirms her successor. "It has been a great privilege indeed to have served as a member of the court for 24 terms," O'Connor wrote in her resignation letter.

This is the kind of political stuff I absolutely LOVE to watch unfold!! :rokk:

I don't think I've ever enjoyed watching politics unfold more than after the 2000 election. I was in politics heaven. The result was wrong by the USSC, but ,man did I love to watch it all unfold. :bdance:

This one surprised me :(

I thought the Chief would go first... O'connor is a moderate, a swing voter.

So if he replaces her with a righty and then the chief gets replaced with a righty, or someone moves up to chief and they replace him with a righty, were fucked on my side :(

Bush 2, won't make the same mistake as his dad and put in a liberal / moderate like Sueter

:(

I think you are right ... but the difference between the Bushes is the difference between the old and new Republican parties.

The Republican party that the elder Bush came from was a far more idealogically diverse bunch of folks. He was a centerist in between the likes of Rockefeller and Goldwater.

The younger Bush is a product of the party that combines a reactionary attitude toward contemporary America that makes Barry Goldwater look like a RINO with the ugliness of the Dixiecrats welcomed into the party by Mitchell/Nixon and company, with, of course God on Their Side because Jezuz told them they were the only true Americans on The 700 Club.

It's gonna get ugly.

This one surprised me too. I was sure The Chief would be heading for retirement, or should I say he needs to head to retirement.

I am still not convinced that these appointments should be for life... but that is another thread...another day.

My political post for this week...year

Well said PD, I couldn't of explained it better.

Clinton and Bush#1 have actually became friends after doing the tsuami thing together.

Bush #1 is old school and was never a hard liner. Mabey on Intl. issues, but didn't throw around "GOD" all the time.

We are in for a doozy... 14 Senators Agreement or NOT, the dems won't give into to right exteme justices without a fight...
