On June 27, 1950, President Harry S. Truman announces that he is ordering U.S. air and naval forces to South Korea to aid the democratic nation in repulsing an invasion by communist North Korea

On this day in 1939, one of the most famous scenes in movie history is filmed--Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara parting in Gone with the Wind. Director Victor Fleming also shot the scene using the alternate line, "Frankly, my dear, I just don't care," in case the film censors objected to the word "damn." The censors approved the movie but fined producer David O. Selznick $5,000 for including the curse.

Just a little morning trivia to go with your coffee.

Good morning, Red, Newton. :bwave:

Interesting. A "damn" got a $5K fine. I like the fine hypocrisy of it all. "We'll let you include the word but we'll make you pay us for it. We don't get any $$$ if we make you take it out. We're obviously not all *that* offended...nothing a bribe wouldn't soothe."

Also on this day in history. Sorry red had to add, couldn't help myself

In 1969, the Denver Pop Festival opened a Mile High Stadium. Among the performers were Jimi Hedrix, Johnny Winter and CCR. It was the last concert by the Jimi Hendrix Experience.

In 1880, author and lecturer Helen Keller - who was blind, deaf, and mute from the age or two - was born.

In 1759, British Gen. James Wolfe landed his army near Quebec City and blocked french shipping. The seige lasted 75 days until the Brits captured the city. (damn limey bastards)

In 1860, the inaugural Queen's Plate was run near Toronto and was won by Don Juan. The Queen's Plate is the oldest uninterrupted stakes race in North America.
