One-on-One Interview: Stuart Lawley, chairman and president, ICM Registry

TORONTO - ICM Registry has pursued the .xxx sponsored Top-Level Domain (sTLD) since 2000. The company’s first application to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) was not approved, and ICM subsequently began a more aggressive campaign in 2003.

Why the hell are they looking for an executive director that's familiar with US politics?

To lobby to make it mandatory for all US webmasters..
I've been saying this since the start, think about how much money they would make if every US webmaster had to migrate over to .XXX.
From the Article:
" Will this be a free-for-all for squatters?
Firstly, registrations will only be open to bona fide members of the community. This authentication will deter most attempts at bad faith registrations.
There is a range of opinion on what constitutes a squatter. Legally, cybersquatters are those who abusively register domain names that are similar or identical to others’ trademarks out of a bad faith intent to exploit the trademark or to extort the trademark owner. We certainly do not intend to provide a free-for-all to cybersquatters, and in addition to a start-up trademark claim policy, we believe that a rapid adjudication or takedown mechanism would also be appropriate in the clearest cybersquatting situations. "
I would love to see these guys turn down cash. That is exactly what this will be.
Something smells rotten...

of course it does.
take a couple of businessmen who cut a deal with the US govt to make it mandatoryfor all US webmasters to use .XXX. Even if .XXX goes thru, it will be worthless unless people are FORCED to use it.
Pretty nice plan, i hope they have the money to back up the many lawsuits that will file. A lot of flaws - besides Free Speech, how about Monopolization, and Anti-Trust - if they really think they will be the only place to register .XXX.

It's more than that, push this right and before long everyone needs a .xxx for adult.
$5 mill invested just to harvest the US webmasters... I think not!
You’re talking about Ron Levi....
...
He may be an individual we reach out to to promote the registry, like we will be doing with one or two other people who have been supportive of us.

What are you trying to say
Let's Follow the Money and see where we end up...
$60 per domain
------------------
#1 $10 to IFFOR (seven-person board of directors appointed by ICM Registry... IFFOR makes the policies, however IFFOR board is appointed by ICM Registry)
#2 $15 to resellers (those who have supported ICM Registry - now we know how Bob Parsons at GoDaddy and the other icann members were bought)
#3 $35 to ICM Registry (probably a bunch of errand boys for something/someone bigger - they sound like wankers to me...)
So all money stays in the family - thats no surprise, but if we can get all the names in #1, #2 and #3, then we will probably find the cowards that have been talking on behalf of us... who were the rats that sold us out??? where does the money end??

I put this up in the All of 'Em Adult News yesterday. The bit I thought was interesting is the bit that says " $250,000 had been pledged for a legal defense fund to keep “.xxx” voluntary." etc.
http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/fortwayne/new...al/11939702.htm (http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/fortwayne/news/local/11939702.htm)
Worth the xxxertion?
A red-light district tentatively cleared for construction on the Internet – the “.xxx” domain – is being billed by backers as giving the $12 billion online porn industry a great opportunity to clean up its act. A distinct online sector for the salacious sites, with rules aimed at forbidding trickery, will reduce the chances of Internet users accidentally stumbling on porn sites, they argue. If only it were so simple: “There are going to be pressures” to mandate it once available, said Marjorie Heins, coordinator of the Free Expression Policy Project at New York University’s law school. Robert Corn-Revere, a lawyer hired by ICM to address free-speech issues, said the company has pledged $250,000 for a legal defense fund to keep “.xxx” voluntary, and he notes that courts have struck down efforts to make movie ratings mandatory. “Where governments have tried to use private labeling systems as proxies for regulation, courts have always held those measures unconstitutional,” he said. Even if it’s voluntary, supporters say, adult sites will have incentives to use “.xxx.” “If the carrot’s big enough, you’re going to get sites in there,” said Parry Aftab, an Internet safety expert who served as an informal adviser on “.xxx.”

There is no doubt it was a brilliant play. Give pork out to everyone. Beautiful management of behind the scenes politics.

sorry i just woke up
So how many of you are still supporting http://www.asacp.org/ ? Since they have not pulled back their letter in support of the xxx tld, then we can assume that they are happy with getting a cut of the xxx deal (also Joan keeps avoiding the subject).
Could we please get some feedback from:
Aly Drummond, AVN
Michelle Freridge, Free Speech Coalition
Alec Helmy, XBiz.com
Chris Jester, SplitInfinity
Holly Moss, HMoss Consulting
Larry Paciotti, CCLR Internet
Scott Rabinowitz, TrafficDude
Morgan Sommer, Cybersocket
Amanda Gross, Epoch Transaction Services
Who of you are willing to get Joan to write an open letter that states VERY CLEARLY that her support for the .xxx is the biggest mistake she has ever made in her adult industry life?

Far-L is deepthroat?
Far-L has been right many times in this industry. I would say he is a true industry leader. He leads by example.

From Part 1

He may be an individual we reach out to to promote the registry, like we will be doing with one or two other people who have been supportive of us.
From Part 2
Do you have any deals on paper that would benefit anyone else in this?
No. ASACP isn't getting a cut.
If you're talking about people like Lensman, Ron Levi, LFP, you name it —no one has been promised any money whatsoever as a one-off payment, recurring payment, or slice of the revenue. I can absolutely assure you of that, hand on heart.
Would those people you mentioned have an advantage or a preferred position in domain name registration?
No. Do you think ICANN would go for that? They would kick our butts.
