You know I have been watching alot of threads about mobile latley and billing options.. some people claim they can bill premium sms in the US for adult type content.. ie im not talking bikini stuff..

anyhow lets set the record straight for now.. some people say yes and well I know on my side of the coin I dont think its possible YET here in the US..

Also whats the deal with people claiming they can bill/use the verizon network? As far as I know they work on a closed system.. ie if I send a text message from my sprint phone with the link http://mobile.wired.com and send it to a verizon person he clicks on it he doesnt go to mobile.wired.com he goes to the verizon portal.. so.. how does someone send content to them .. outside of a potential email with a image attatched..

anyhow sorta rambling now.. but I think its good to shed some light on these two things.. I really hate seeing sites that claim otherwise.

i guess ill answer my own questions from what I know.

currently you cannont bill premium sms for adult in the US.. If you do you got damn lucky OR are using a short code you bought to sell one thing but bill in adult.. big big NO NO..

You buy a short code in the US. then submit your product/site to the carriers and they either opt in or not so untill one of them pubically comes out of the closet to make money off us selling porn this is gonna be a while..

We use credit card billing for US customers for our mobile content we sell.

the Verizon issue. colpanic and I have been trying to bust this myth .. hehe that reminds me of the tv show Mythbusters.. anyhow.. from what we can tell so far their is NO way you can get adult content on verizon phone from a sms link that you receive..

so I think to any of the companies that are claiming this I say "BULLSHIT" I hope people have seen the Penn and Teller TV show called bullshit :)

Verizon was quoted last week of saying they plan to open up a bit towards the end of the year but as far as details to what that is is uknown. the article mentiond something about a brew delivery system to allow contnet though..

Lol.. Thanks Gateway.

Actually I do have the unlimited data plan. (it's like 5 bucks).

I also recently upgraded to a messaging plan, so I get 300 messages for like 3 bucks or something. But, the majority of tmobile users do get charged a nickle for every message they receive. (and another nickle for each one they send)

BTW.. I'm not saying that the Sexmoney stuff is bad... I'm just curious how you work out the weird details like I'm talking about.

Like, what's to stop someone from just typing in a whole exchange of phone numbers to your system? First time a bunch of 13 year olds start getting sex chat messages, there's gonna be hell to pay. And at a buck a number, you *know* people are going to abuse the system.

I just hope you guys have the bases covered.

In the UK, it's always "sender pays", so it doesn't cost you anything to get messages.

Presumably though, the Sexmoney guys are doing something more than spam. The ad's look like you are signing up for some dating site or chat service, although they don't mention there being a cost.

(Sexmoney: Please tell me they aren't for spam :) )

The issues worry me, but if you guys can explain why they aren't big issues, It could be a great ad for our sites.

I just don't want to advertise anything that will a) cause our surfers to get spammed... B ) let some joker put in everybody's phone number and get the feds on me for texting kids, or c) cost people money without them knowing it.

Can you guys talk a bit more about it?

this is a double optin systemt much like the e-mail collectors

the user must respond to the sms he receives from us for the wm to be paid on the number

as far as the questions about the incomming messages i will have to find out about that. We arent using them for spam to any of our adult sites and will only text the phones after the initial confirm text has been returned by the user with the code that is required for confirmation
