ST. LOUIS (CP) - The NHL's St. Louis Blues have been put up for sale after losing $60 million US over the past two years.

The team said Friday that Wal-Mart heirs Bill and Nancy Laurie, citing significant projected financial losses, had decided to put the club up for sale.

My question is this... ok so they're losing money and putting the team up for sale. but... why would you put the team up for sale and expect a decent selling price (or buyer period) when you're whining all over the news that the team is literally hemorraging cash and that trend is expected to continue in the long run, even with the new NHL deal expected?

seems like a poor selling point to me... but what do i know? I'm just a business and commerce student :headwall:

There should be not hidden secrets...All interested parties should know what

they will be getting into.

Even if the franchise sold for $1.00, which it won't, that is

one less doller the current owner don't have to take as a loss.

When the franchise is sold both parties will be happy with the out-come of the sale.

Even in the face of adversity, there will be one who thinks it a viable proposition. There always is if the price is right

what's funny is that they will still probably sell it for a huge profit...

They might be next. They're a small market with a very fickle fan base.

The culling of the herd has begun.

Don't be jealous because we still have the cup!!

10 years since its been in Candian hands.

The Candians are holding the NHL back. Keeping the rings small, and the game a game of grabbing, holding, and wrestling so they can keep their jobs!!

Open the rings up like in Europe, bring back the speed of the game.

No more Candian goons!!!

GO LIGHTENING! And yes I wll have season tickets when then start playing again.... if they play again!

The Blues fucked themselves. They pulled a typical sports franchise move - sign a lease with unrealistic terms in the expectation that they could cry poor and get a reduction. The Lauries knew the team had to make it to the second round of the playoffs before they'd show a profit when they bought the damn thing. It won't sell to move to another city, either - there's about 63 million in lease obligations and arena debt.

St. Louis is a tough sports market (ask Arizona Cardinal's owner Bill Fuckhead Bidwell). Still - don't count out the Blues.

I've been to Canada many times. Very beautiful. I've seen the loons, but never the goons.

Go Rangers
Go Lightning
Go Hurricanes

By the way Mike, Vincent Lecavalier's family lives just down the street from me.
The cup (and Vincent) made a stop last summer here at the local IGA (grocery store).

They're back in negotiations now.

They're agreed to a salary cap but there are still other things to work out apparently..

But its a good sign
