First off, there's no servers like ICQ to connect too, it's peer to peer.

Second, it's encrypted, so chat and voice communication is secure

Third, it just fucking rocks!

Get it, http://skype.com

Add me anthonyaksa

Oh, and unlike ICQ which logs all convos, skype does not.

In this day and age, I think we should be looking for more security.

It's great for freaks like you who like to talk on the phone :awinky: Me, I like the "get it done fast" aspect of ICQ. Plus I can carry on many ICQ convos the same time - can't do that on the phone :(

I prefer msn for instant messaging because of the cam feature :groucho: but I use icq most of the time...

As for making calls I use that thing... erm.... oh whats it called.... ah yes - The phone :P

I guess you fuckers are really missing the point.

Somewhere where a server is directing your messages back and forth, there is logging going on.

Some of you might not care, I do. Skype which is peer to peer, has no middle man logging all conversations.

Except for the hardcore cybersex between me and all my affiliates, there's nothing anyone would be interested in regarding my ICQs anyway :( In fact, I even got DeadAim so I can log my AIM convos. For a spacehead like me, it's VERY convenient for me to go back and see what I've said to someone previously :)

Okie dokie, if you say so.

I miss using the phone. You can get right to the point and move on on the phone. You can also get a better idea of mood by tone. You can also get someone's relatiely undivided attention by phone.

At the same time I like ICQ for multitasking.

I'll have to check out Skype.

Question... I know that the EU and Australia admits that Echelon exists - however have the US ever admitted that Echelon exists? Anyone know?

Skype is fantastic and its coming to mobiles too ..

Niklas Zennstrom, co-founder and CEO of Skype has announced that a mobile version of Skype will be available later this year.

“We will encourage hardware manufacturers to deploy Skype on their devices. SkypeMobile for mobile devices will be targeted to hardware manufacturers for integration into new dual-mode (GPRS + WiFi) mobile devices once made available to carriers. Our guess is that whichever manufacturer will adopt Skype first is the platform SkypeMobile will be released for," said Zennstrom.
