Got in about 4 this afternoon after driving about 30 hours straight from San Diego.

Been spending the afternoon changing out passwords, talking to insurance people, locking down the server, all sorts of fun stuff.

Why, you ask ?

Because Thursday afternoon around 2pm, some asshole in San Diego decided that my laptop and camera looked better with them than with me.

So, at least 300 vacation pics lost. 3 days of weekend jewelry email (including contest entry emails) lost. Who knows how many different sponsor passwords (there was a complete copy of my database on the puter) given up.

That is if they bother to try to hack my user, otherwise they just have my 13 year old daughters stuff, like her complete AIM list.

Vacation was pretty good up to that point. 3 days of total stress later and I am wiped.

:grrr:

Welcome home! :)

Sorry to hear you got ripped off. I'm sure your frustration is not from loosing
your computer or your carmera, but the information and pics.

It would be nice if someone can create a computer software or a computer chip that can be installed, and if your computer gets ripped off, authorities can pin down the location and recover both the equipement and the thieves. Just like a car.

I wish I was smart enough to invent something like that.

I wanted to add that the cost is very reasonable.

lolol...I invented that during my drive home today :headwall: 30 hours of dreiving makes for some awesome design time :)

Yes, it is the pics that bother me the most to lose. This was sort of a belated honeymoon for me and Jen, first trip like this we have done, so the pics were kind of precious.

The info on the puter bothers me some, but that is just like a pain in the ass type thing. First of all I had the puter locked down pretty tight so to get to stuff they are going to have to hack my user password and then get around some encryption schemes. So, like I say, mainly a pain in the ass thing. The laptop was probably in Tijuana being reformatted within an hour after it was stolen, so that is probably pretty much a non issue.

Paperwork in my laptop case bothers me more, I had a copy of my fed taxes in there because of an issue I was dealing with when we left on the trip, so they have my name, address, social. The whole bit. Which means I have to put some heavy duty credit monitoring in place and all that shit.

Anyway, good to be home :)

Wow that sucks bro.

I travel a lot myself and have thousands of emails and documents on my laptop, never thought about the fact someone else would get to read all of it if I'd lose it. Maybe it's time to start locking up
