No Joke: Richard Nixon sinks hole-in-one
ST. LOUIS - Richard Nixon is not a crook, nor a liar, but apparently a pretty good golfer. On Wednesday, a day after the identity of "Deep Throat" was revealed, Richard Mark Nixon made a hole-in-one.
St. Louis Post-Dispatch sports clerk Dennis Cutter was careful to double-check the facts of the feat that seemed suspicious. But the namesake of the president who resigned in 1974 as a result of the Watergate scandal had in fact used a 9-iron to ace the 125-yard 16th hole at Spencer T. Olin golf course in Alton, Ill.
"When we turned it in, my friends said someone will think it's a joke," Nixon, 27, told the Post-Dispatch. "They said someone's going to call bull on this."
Nixon was born three years after Richard Milhous Nixon resigned. The Florissant Nixon is an assistant football coach and physical education teacher at Hazelwood Central High School.
An "independent issues voter," Nixon was unaware of Deep Throat's revelation until someone asked him Thursday about the strange timing.
"I guess it was in the stars for someone called my name," he said.
