Springfield Armory's XD Pistols recently won the NRA's 2003 Golden Bullseye Award for "Handgun of the Year".

Thats a nice piece. I like H&Ks a lot, and Sig Sauers. I think Glocks are crap. I cant go with the snub like the one you got, my hands are too big, and besides, without a concealed permit, discretion is not my priority:) The springfield armory line you got is a well made handgun.

When I did my CC course , I'm sure the guy said anyone threatening you with a knife at a distance of 25ft or less , shoot.
