It seems all users will need to reset there passwords.

Is that true?

cuntyfirestarter is mine

But I've seen boards (geek boards) switch with little/no problem. Not with a member base this size though

It probably is true Nick but you will be a lot happier. The features are like night and day. Well worth the change.

Actually, let me ask a friend of mine

Why you thinking of switching ?

The current thinking is

http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.ph...617&postcount=4 (http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=657617&postcount=4)
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=116398

Since you're not preserving a theme, you simplify things greatly.

What I would recommend is staging it to make sure. i.e. http://vb.oprano.com, separate database, etc. Do the import, check things, double check things, make sure those permissions are set right, get your template designed.

It'll take you a week or so banging on it to get everything worked out -- keep copious notes.

On your switchover day, shut down invision, dump, import, turn up vb, run through your staging checklist, turn it live.

If you have interesting permission combinations, you'll want to doublecheck those, i.e. one person able to do admin in a particular group, but not in other groups, etc.

My password is Two Weeks...

Which is also the estimate I would give you on switching over to Vbulletin :yowsa:

No.

VBulletin has several import scripts (including one that works with Invision) and all they do is reformat the SQL databases from their existing Invision format into the VB3.07 format.

Non of the data in your SQL database should need to be changed either in the admin side of things or, the end-users side.

Nick,

If you have a programmer that knows how to import the data, there will be no need to reset passwords. The users will just need to log back in with their normal info.

VBull is very powerful both from the member standpoint and from the admin. You will have a lot more options.

I have had the data imported on several occasions from other scripts.

Who the hell cares?

A BB is a BB so what does it matter? Everything is templated anyways. Add PHPAdNews and it's all set. No?

Just make sure you have a good rollback plan in case it totally goes to shit, and then go for it.
