Well, traffic was delighful this morning here in the beautiful city of Toronto. I could barely contain myself from licking the asphalt!

52,000 souls, over 17,000 litres (about 4700 gallons) lost. For those of you who appreciate the warm comfort provided by barley and hops please, show your respects.

'Sea of beer' shuts eastbound 401
No serious injuries in clash between truck, car
FROM CANADIAN PRESS

Rush-hour traffic on the busiest stretch of Highway 401 was snarled this morning after a tractor trailer hauling 2184 cases of beer collided with a small car and flipped onto its side.

The accident at about 6:30 a.m. brought traffic to a standstill in the eastbound express lanes the 401 just east of Highway 400, in the area known as the 'basket weave.'

The entire load of beer was spilled, creating what one police officer described as a "sea of beer."

An air ambulance was dispatched to the scene, after a female driver was trapped in her car, but it wasn't needed.

"The good news is the young lady that was in the Honda Civic is not seriously injured. She's in quite good condition considering the damage to her car," OPP Sgt. Cam Wooley told CP24.

"The bad news is traffic is not good. This is the busiest stretch of highway in North America."

Other heavily travelled rush-hour routes feeding into Highway 401, including Highways 400, 407 and 427, were also being clogged by the accident.

"I just came down the 400 and it's really slow, pretty well a parking lot and at a crawl," said Wooley.

The eastbound express lanes of Highway 401 were expected to be closed until at least noon.

There was no word of additional injuries.

If that had happened in the U.S. a hoarde of "good samaritans" armed with straws would have come to the rescue. :P

Oh my God!!! The Humanity!!!
This *sob* is absolutely the most horrific thing I have ever witnessed... I can see flaming beers jumping from the truck to their certain death. I ... just ... can't bear ... the sight of this monumental tragedy.

Apparently Toronto's highway's are thirsty and hungry. First the beer which apparently wasnt hard enough so some vodka was added.. but that only whetted the appetite so this morning 38,000 lbs of meat products was thrown into the mix.

From cp24.com

They say bad things happen in threes – and that was certainly the case on G.T.A. highways as another tractor-trailer flipped over Thursday morning – the second of the day and the third overturned rig in less than 24 hours.

The latest accident occurred at approximately 11am Thursday on the ramp from the eastbound 401 to the northbound 427.

Two trucks were at the scene at one point, the flipped truck in front, and another transport behind it. It wasn’t certain whether the second rig was involved, or the driver just a witness.

For whatever reason it has since left the scene, and skid marks were plainly visible on the road. The tipped rig was apparently loaded with more than 24,000 kg of meat, including chuck, pastrami, and short ribs.

Hamilton drivers had their Thursday morning rush hour stalled by vodka – more accurately a pile of vodka bottles smashed on the pavement of Highway 403 when another tractor-trailer overturned.

No one was seriously injured in the spill, but the highway near the Q.E.W. remained closed as crews cleaned up the broken glass from the empty bottles. It appears the truck was the only vehicle involved.
