Just watched a documentary on North Korea now thats a scary place.

Apparently:

1) North Koreans are taught from age four that Americans are cannibals and that American missionaries came to North Korea to eat Koreans.

2) Along their freeways they have billboards proclaiming that George Bush and all America is evil and that North Korea will nuke the US if provoked.

3) Their prison camps are modelled on the Nazi concentration camps with the exception that the inmates should die as slowly and nastily as possible rather than as efficiently as possible.

4) North Korean citizens are required to visit a memorial to the elder Kim where they are told the story of his life. If they do not cry within 2 minutes they are branded as traitors.

That's some weird stuff.

What makes it worse is that they possess 3-stage missiles probably capable of reaching the West Coast and at least half a dozen nuclear devices, and are currently spending 30% of their GDP on their military.

They just re-tested a missile over Japan and US analysts believe they may well conduct a nuclear test soon, meaning he has enough bombs to waste one.

Very worrying.

What's even more worrying is that it's a tactical nightmare.

The strip of land 5-10 miles wide immediately north of the DMZ probably has the highest concentration of artillery in the world - all of it aimed at the capital of an ally. An attempt at the mythical "surgical strike" would unleash a war. It's very unlikely that the ally we are there to protect will be willing to risk that sort of confrontation. It's even more likely that most scenarios for war in Korea, given the size of the U.S. military EVEN WITHOUT the situations in Afghanistan and Iraq, involve use of the weapons we don't want him to have.

There might even be some neocons who could see the problem with that (hey, I'm a liberal - we are by nature optomisitc).
