(Atlanta, Georgia, May 8, 2005) - - After two decades behind bars authorities are questioing the guilt of a convicted killer in Atlanta, and a local attorney is on the case. News 4's Michele McClintick reports.

Over 20 years after he was convicted of murder in Atlanta, there are plans to reopen Wayne Williams' case.

Michael Lee Jackson is the Williams' attorney. Jackson says back then, his client was branded from the beginning, the target of racial discrimination. Attorney for Wayne Williams Michael Lee Jackson: "Wayne was a perfect fall guy he was black and liked to talk a lot. We don't have a race problem in atlanta."

Williams was convicted for the murder of 2 men in Atlanta over 20 years ago. Police in Atlanta later blamed him for more than 20 other killings, but he was never formally charged in those cases.

Now, one man believes Williams is innocent and will try to prove it. Chief Louis Graham of the Dekalb County Police: "Quite frankly, I don't think that Wayne Williams is responsible for anything. I don't think he did anything. I made up my mind with that over 20 years ago, and i still feel that way."

It's only one man who thinks his not guilty. Of course he is the police chief of the county...He'll need to come up with some good evidence, and that going to be tough.

For the police chief to think he's innocent, makes me think the chief knows something a little extra about the case....

What do you expect a bartender called "Spike Mike" to call it in a bar called the "Dixie Tavern".

For the next couple of week all you're going to hear on the tube is the
Wayne Williams case going back to the early 80's.

Families that were affected by this case 25 years ago are going to have to re-live
it all over again.

I've sat and read the the story in gonzo's link and I think he's guilty...

It's hard to imagine what the children(and adults) went through, never mind the 60+ cases that never made the 'list'... I stand by my statement of: burn the son of a bitch!

I think Williams is a serial killer responsible for the deaths of most of the cases he is suspected of.

I think it's very likely that law enforcement "credited" him with some annoying, pesky cases they couldn't solve that weren't really his.
