Does this mean something good? Or is it just crap? http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_...rl=pornpapa.com (http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details?q=&url=pornpapa.com)

What I am paying the most attention to is the "todays rank" and the "weekly average"

I already know I am moving up somewhat because I jumped half a million spots in the past week but are those stats a sign of good things to come?

Until your up higher, those numbers will swing back and forth quite a bit...

A couple of years ago, about 6 months into paperjewels.com, for some reason or other Alexa threw us up into like 25,000 or so.. showed us for a few days looking like sme kind of players... Then just as quickly went back down to the 2million mark (which is where your's is showing on the 3 month when I looked at it a second ago).

Some folks put stock in alexa, specially when it's showing good stuff about them :yowsa:

Well, at one point I had that site up under a million at like 700K and it stayed that way for a little while. I changed formats and left it un-maintained for a while and thus I ended up there in the basement. I have been actively seeking good hardlinks the past couple weeks though and I am starting doing some SEO stuff to the pages now. Nothing major just small tweaks in how I am writing and shit. Hope it does mean good things though. That would be just fine by me. ;)

How often does alexa shift their rankings btw? I know they are "powered by google" or some shit and I noticed right about the time this update happened that google updated some of my stuff too. Are they on the same time schedule?

They typically reindex daily in alphabetic order.... not that I would know anything about that or SE's as some have suggested in the past...

Ok, now when you say they reindex daily in alphabetical order, does that mean that they start at a.com, aa.com, aardvark.com, aarp.com, etc etc. And then run until they hit the last site on the web? Is that how that works?

Alexa is a good GENERAL measure...real general. It can be easily manipulated and it of course only sees visitors that have the Alexa toolbar installed.

I think more webmasters have the Alexa toolbar than general surfers because they are using it as a measurement tool.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not down on Alexa. I use it myself. Here is an example of the wide variation in Alexa numbers versus real visitors.

For two sites that I was privy to the real stats. Alexa ranked them both around 78,000. One site had 2,000 uniques a day and the other had 10,000 uniques a day. A third site I know is ranked 35,000 by Alexa and has 2,500 uniques a day.
