I'm looking to go on a golfing trip with a friend this summer.
But I'm looking for suggestions on where to go.

Right now I've almost decided to go to Pinehurst in North Carolina.

Where else would be good around end August?

You want the feeling of a links style course without having to cross the ocean and has hosted a major and is hosting several other majors and big events in the near future and was ranked #2 in Golf Digest?? Greens fees range from $141 to $297 per 18 holes depending on which course and when you play and is worth every penny from everything I have heard.

Whistling Straits- held 2004 PGA Championship

http://www.destinationkohler.com/ws/ws.html

36 holes- two courses
1- Straits coirse http://www.destinationkohler.com/ws/straits.html and
2- Irish Course- http://www.destinationkohler.com/ws/irish.html

http://www.wisconsin4golf.com/details.cfm?CourseNo=396

It also has a second course that is damn near as good close by (about 9-10 miles)

Blackwolf Run

http://www.destinationkohler.com/bwr/bwr.html

36 holes two courses
1- River course - http://www.destinationkohler.com/bwr/river.html
2- Meadow Valleys Course - http://www.destinationkohler.com/bwr/valley.html

http://www.wisconsin4golf.com/details.cfm?CourseNo=482

Both courses designed by Pete Dye and get rave reviews from the golfing general and professional public.

Pinehurst is NOT going to be fun in August, unless you like Miami like humidity and bugs and so on.

I'd go for somewhere in Cali that time of the year, the coast is very comfortable and there are a lot of courses to choose from, especially in southern California. Torrey Pines, Spyglass, Pelican Hill, Pebble Beach, etc...

If you come thru Atlanta, you can play on the FFN's favorite course:

To win you have to whip it out and put the final hole with your dick instead of a putter. We all always call it a draw.

Yep both nice. I actually built TPC VB. Well the clubhouse and the cart house anyway, hehe. I would also suggest "Bay Creek" I think it's called. It's the Arnold Palmer course up on the Eastern Shore. VERY nice course. Slick slick greens. You feel like Tiger when you just barely tap a putt and it goes on ... and on ... and on ... and on ... then you feel like yourself again when it doesn't go in the hole though. lmao...

Some good suggestions here... I'm going to check them out.

KK... humid in North Carolina in late August?
The average temps look ok to me avg high 86.0° F, avg low 68.0° F.

Packages at www.pinehurst.com look nice.
Anyone got a website handy for Torrey Pines or Spyglass?

Yes, it is humid in NC in late August!!

If you're looking for a good golf course that's humid in the summer, don't forget Augusta :)

Hey, they let in OJ and Tiger, so according to Augusta National, they aren't racist anymore;)

We've settled on Pinehurst. I would hardly call that settling, though.
Thanks for the suggestions.

We're lucky as well. During our stay, there are no scheduled tournaments, and we'll easily be able to play #2.
