A business that relies soley on advertising revenue for income is going to hit the shitter at some point. Google is riding the wave right now. Adwords and Adsense are great programs, but as with anything else on the web that is an affiliate program. Shitbirds will figure out how to cheat it and devalue it with hitbots and the like. I've seen adsense on thousands of non content based sites. (even consoles from non content based sites)

Yahoo was in the same boat years ago. Then, they hit the shitter and started charging for listings. Even by charging for listings, they're not the force they once were even with more surfers on the web.

Bill, advertising is ALWAYS a boom or bust industry. It is the very nature of the business.

What gives Google a huge advantage however is low overhead. They are bigger them GM, and only have 3,500 employees. The revenue to employee ratio is HUGE! This is a nice cushion to have.

It is Mike and Google is riding the wave. They're also being sued by a juggernaut of mainstream advertisers that are calling bullshit to their adwords bills. Millions upon millions of dollars in overcharges.

Put some damages on top of that and the cost of Nick proofing the system all over again and that's gonna cut heavily into that cushion.

Wanna know something I found hella interesting , don't know if you guys will...

I did an interesting experiment recently.

I discovered a covert site of mine was #3 for a decent term on google.

So I bought the same search term from google.

The free listing does WAAAAAYYYYYYYYY better.Both in clicks ...(incredibly) and in sales (higher ratio but more overall clicks)

Now my theory is that surfers are more sophisticated and realise that those are paid links and don't want to pay , so they hit the free link.

When they get there they are persuaded to buy.

Back to the point...that means that free listings work better than paid , so therefore its encouraging for shitbirds :)
