View Full Version : Would you fire a rep for getting drunk at a show

Seems someone got a little drunk and started forcing himself on the girls at a recent show. If he was representing your company would you fire his ass?

If there was proof and complaints as to behaviour and drunken nature, then without a doubt.
Damn right I would!
Getting tanked is one thing but getting tanked and harassing women isn’t acceptable or good company PR.

We've tried firing Gabe for getting drunk and feeling up all the guys, but he's a Mexican, in California.....need I say more?

I think it would depend alot on other factors... Such as how drunk was he ... Was he being unprofessional... Did you tell him not to get drunk.... The list goes on. There would be alot of variable to take in prior to an automatic firing.
I haven't been to a show in oh like 6 years and it was the only one I went to but from what I hear these shows can get pretty crazy in some circumstances and to be honest - a Rep who knows hwo to party and liven up the party is an asset as long as he isn't pushing the lines...
The kid didn't get fired, though, he went back home and then resigned.
People do stupid things at shows, we all have our moments... that was pretty bad, but I'm not entirely sure what I'd have done about it were I his boss.

Shoving tounge down throat... Pushing the limits?
I wasn't there, but that's the reports.
I like Rinaldo, I've never seen him drunk. I feel for everyone invloved, on a personal note I know firsthand how binges and addictions can affect one personally, and professionally.
Hopefully this is a wakeup call for him.

Dunno him...but I'm sure I've done worse.
Everyone fucks up.
To err is human , to forgive , divine :)
However as Ant says this is a wake up call , some listen to the alarm and turn there lives around.Others don't.
If it was my rep ( and I say this now that I'm clean and sober of course) I'd chat with him (ie coat him to within an inch of his life ) and offer options.
Option 1. Stop drinking continue employment , with every help an assistance.
Option 2. Continue being a drunken bum , leave the corp and hope he nevers serves me at Mickey D's.
However...
In 2001 I prolly would have appointed him to the board ;-))
Difference is , and I know this to be true....drunk and partying income = $0.00 if your lucky...its actually negative...
Clean and sober , frankly , you can OWN this industry.

Personally, if I had a rep who did the above, I'd give him two options. They'd be:
1) You resign.
or
2) I fire you.
No excuse. Why is this industry any different than other industries? Sure, we have a hefty contingent of "webmasters" who belong to the Zoo Crew and aren't really in this as a business. That doesn't mean that the businesspeople amongst us don't have to conduct themselves as businesspeople.
Give me a fucking break. I've seen so many people at shows and show parties that I immediately made mental notes about, to the effect of "do not ever work with or hire that guy/girl."

Good rule of thumb, if you're there as a rep for a company you don't own
Don't get DRUNK in public
Would I fire him?
Most likely but not for that reason
But I do also like the line of thinking, either go to AA or rehab or get fired

With all due respect, I prefer the line of thinking of "welcome to your first day at work, here are the rules, 1) doing anything that brings bad rep upon my business will get you fired." Stuff like that needs to be laid out upfront.
I guess working for me would be a real "buzz kill," as the kiddies say. :grrr:

In this business there are tons of very very talented people who , frankly, are fucking loopy as fuck. LOL
Its the nature of the business IMHO.
I can name loads of people who can add multiple zeros onto yr bottomline that you'd fire in the first day LOL

My first knee-jerk reaction would be to fire him.
My second thought would be to find as much information about the incident as possible. Was it repeated many times during the show? Once? Was it over and over an entire night? Was it once for five minutes, then he passed out? Was in at 3am with a few people around? Was it at 10am on the show floor? ... There are degrees.
Again, I'd still be heavily wieghted towards the firing side of the equation, but I would first want to know "the degree" of the situation as to make the most informed choice.

You have a good point as usual, and I'm sure we all have somewhere at sometime
But if it's on my dime and my company I sure wouldn't be happy about it
Like I said, I'll probably find another reason to fire unless he was worth a good deal to the bottom line
Basically if he was the difference between a 1M a year company and a 10M a year company am sure I could look the other way for the overwhelming majority of things

ehh if that was the worst thing I ever did drunk I'd be a lot better off mentally than I am now lol
Depends how forceful he was getting. If he was just being a happy idiot I'd laugh at him for a week and bring him to the next show. If he was being a rapist I'd can him and maybe kick his ass too.
One of my employees got drunk at the last big show, hooked up with this black prostitute and she wouldn't let any of the guys sharing his room come in unless they were gonna pay for a blowjob too. When she left she took his wallet and his weed with her. I just mocked him for a while and let it go ;)

I learned my lesson at the show in Florida last year. I got pretty tanked at Circue De Noir and fucked up a conversation that could have been a real booster for me personally. I think drinking and shows really don't mix if you can't control what you're having. To my credit, I was partying with ToyBoy. And there is no middle speed with him. It's either stop or full throttle. ;)

A lot of it depends on if he was on the clock or not. I realize that for many companies, during shows, all reps are considered "on the clock" and I would think that most reps would assume that during the show they are representing their company.
But there is grey area to be found there.

First tour in the Navy I went to a "hump" (half-way through a deployment) party and explained to the CO and XO how to better run the squadron. I didn't drink at official command functions after that.
First real job after I got out of the Navy I nearly missed my plane coming back from San Diego - fortunately for me, the people in whose driveway I'd parked my rental car before I passed out went to work early. I always wished I'd known where that was so I could have thanked them properly. I never drank at trade shows after that (but I always managed to take a couple days vacation after I got back).
I don't think there are nearly as many variables as others do. MAYBE if he's very young and it was his first show, blah-blah-blah, you can give him another chance. If it's somebody who's been around the block a few times, or it's somebody you know likes to party - it's either "no shows for you", or "hey, hit the highway."

In addition to this excellent point, the entire story really is not being told.
First and foremost, from my perspective, I agree entirely with what Serge said. To further counter those hanging him out to dry, I have witnessed all to often program owners, site owners and reps coming back from shows sounding off with righteous rhetoric on boards and laughed to myself as they were the ones parading around the lobby on cocaine, ecstacy, and alcohol.
I have been drunk at shows. I have done so with some of the biggest people around. I have also been sober at shows. Deal is, the business is done on both fronts. Some of the biggest traffic sites around are owned by people that are not bound by conventional professionalism. I would say if you rule someone out for not being sober at a show, you likely limited your business potential to some degree. But to each there own.
I drink at shows. I have a good time. I try not to cross the line. I also do not judge those that choose to do more than drink. Me? I don't. But the path of the righteous is not always as promising as it seems from the exterior.
Moving on. I really had no inclination to respond to this (or any) of the threads spawned from the said event, but this thread changed my mind. This is my perspective:
He got very drunk at a show. He ravaged and harrassed several models and affiliate reps in front of significant others whom attempted to stop him. He got aggressive with them verbally. Is this groundbreaking show behavior? Not in the slightest. Was it wrong? It sure was. Here is the issue, in my opinion. He came back from the show, and was confronted regarding the issue and he denied it. He denied the accounts of what is actually more than two industry couples. Further than denying them, he made a critical error by going into Vanilla's thread on G$fy and making an insulting remark about her. He did so in a thread that obviously meant something to her.
That was stupid, immature and unclassy. Serge, Nick and KK are dead on in saying we have all been there. Maybe not because you had too much to drink, but maybe the way you behaved on a board. But what makes you a pro is being able to come forward and say you are sorry. He was unable to do that. That is the reason I would let someone go.
I am very close to both Vanilla and Stewie, and I can assure you with highest confidence that none of this would have been made public had he said nothing, even less an apology. I spoke with her last night on the phone, and to say the absolute least, she was not happy about all of this. I think at the end of the day, she would have lived with "hey, I was drunk, I am sorry about that." Wouldn't most of us?
Now, he brought them bad PR, but was it because of what he did or how he reacted afterwards? Thing about it.
ThrobX, I have known you for a long time. I do however respectfully disagree with your view. As much as I agree that this is a business processing transactions like any other business, it is still built around the sex industry, in some cases even a seedy side of the sex industry. I remember my first show, I was absolutely baffled seeing prominent guys in the hotel lobbies picking up trashy hookers and walking up to their rooms in front of everyone. This is an industry whereas parties are often times thrown at strip clubs, or even at brothels in many cases. The threshold for professionalism is more liberal. That said, cases like this will occur with more frequency. What is important is that people still respect certain, more liberal limitations.
Just my thoughts on it.

Interesting, Cory.....I've seen you pretty wasted, my friend...a particular argument between us in Phoenix comes to mind. We were both shouting at each other...actually, I believe that's how we met and have loved ever since.
Many of the examples you've given have much to do with owners of companies; and, if they wish to behave as such, then they will reap the benefits or consequences. It is their company. They get to set policy. Going broke or not is their choice.
When a rep, however, crosses lines that anyone with common sense should not cross...that's a different story.
There was a rep who used to be with a particular affiliate program..and pretty high up on the totem pole with this company. Anytime we tried to talk to him, no matter what time of day....he was in pretzel shape and unable to string two words together. When you're drunk, Cory, you get more articulate, if that's possible. See the difference?
When someone represents a company, on the clock or off....and, I'm only talking about shows now....they are presenting the face of said company....this particular person who is gone now.....lost his company business...period.
We've all been drunk; but, throwing up in public into flower pots while representing a company whose dime is paying for your trip...sorry, that's crossing the line...
Anything that reflects negatively on the company, unfortunately, is not always a good thing....whether we judge it or not.
Back in the day, we were more wild. Today, we can't afford to be.

It's either stop or full throttle. ;)

Well, we'll have to agree to disagree on this. We're marketing a product, doesn't make any difference to me if it's a pencil or a pussy, we're in the marketing business. The nature of the product should have no impact on our professionalism. Just my opinion, I COULD be wrong. Your mileage may vary, etc. It's cool, of course.
Maybe this will more clearly illustrate my thoughts... Raven makes a good point. If, for example, I, as the owner of my company, choose to get drunk and obnoxious at an industry soiree, any soiled reputation is purely my OWN fault. If, however, my employee chooses to get drunk and obnoxious, then it's THEIR fault, but it ultimately reflects poorly upon ME. That's where I draw the line (income generation aside, that was more a joke than anything).
Email with ICQ number on the way. :)

Always amazing to me...
This wouldn't even be debateable outside of this industry. However, there will always be those at shows who want to "live the life" as part of playing this game.
This is way out of bounds for me. I cant imagine ever hiring anyone who I could even imagine representing my company at a trade show and behaving in this manner. With that in mind, if he did, he's a fired ass because I obviously misjudged his character.
I would also say that I'm not about to send a kid who I know is unlikely to have been exposed to the level of partying this industry can do, and may not be able to hold his liquor, to a show without someone to stick to him like glue and mentor him a bit. There is some management responsibility as well as personal responsibility.

I honestly think this sums it up the best out of all the statements I have seen here - which is why I posted what I did "Depends alot on the various circumstances"
Just getting back into this busines a couple months in and I an tell things are much more political. Back in 97-99 hell you were a tight ass if you weren't partying so hard you threw up in the flower pots :) Little bit if an over statement but I think you get the point - Parties at conventions were just for that, partying.
Now they are for socializing, making business deals, and representing your company and what they stand for. Not to mention the comapny's ethics by the behavior of their employees. This is a much more corporate business now than it was, and should be treated a such.

Program owners are different in the way that they represent their own financial platform and brand but I was speaking more in terms of hypocrisy / industry bounds / perception. Looking back into this thread, I may well have been better off to not cite it. It led it astray. But the fuel is somewhere, is it not? The perception is what it is for a reason? Therefore, the environment is assumed. If you hire an employee in this industry and send them to a show, they will be exposed to those environments.
My point is, he made a mistake and instead of apologizing, he insulted one of the accusers in a thread.
That is my issue with all this. Nothing more, nothing less. I do not care what people do at shows. However, it should be very clear that although this is a business like other businesses, it still isn't. You don't see girls getting whipped and cummed all over in a Venetian Suite at the Catering convention. Therefore, perception is different as it is shaped by very different marketing schemes. You all can accuse me of being naive to business, but take an opportunity to speak to me in person and I am willing to bet you retract the accusation.
HP, 3 years ago, I would have quoted your post as "dead on," but not today. All the same, no matter what I say in this thread, it will likely appear that I am supportive of idiot behavior, that is just not the case.
I know Dave, the owner of Platinum Bucks real well. He has a great product and staff. That said, I am going to drop out of this thread. I don't feel like bumping it or jumping to conclusions on what may or may not have happened with his employment is helpful to him. At the end of the day, things happen, people move on.

Well, I am not all about beating people up, I think he (both husbands involved) did the standup thing. Like I said, I think he should have apologized to her. I think had he done that, nothing would have steamrolled. I also stated that I know her pretty well and that would have been good enough for her. She is a classy girl and a professional.
What "he did" and the extent of what we are talking about now are not really one in the same. The thread meandered a bit. If you are discussing him as an isolated event, that is not the same as your very general thread title. This is why I am weary of posting in threads like this, people tend to not understand the nuances.
I don't have enough time to explain all of that however.
Step back and take a look at the mentality dealt with in this industry. We all read the boards. Getting drunk (the general scenario) hardly matches up to the daily ignorant ramblings I see on chat boards.
I have not the time for that either.
The fact that it went to two guys toe to toe, shows that something was out of order!
So Cory, say you hit one of the shows with your girl and I cop more than a feel, would “sorry I was tanked” fix it?

I made a clear statement that I was friends with someone on the other side of the issue. I likely have deeper insight into how she felt about it than you do. No offense, I hope, taken by you.
I responded more to the general theme that the thread meandered into. I will however say that Gonzo's thread title did include the "fondling" portion in the sub-title (I just hardly read that).
Again, I don't know how to tell you that I don't support "him" in a way that you can understand. I don't appreciate his actions and clearly stated he should have apologized to her. I am not the type to go on chat forums and talk about how I would beat some ass. It just isn't me. But if "beat some ass" translates into I don't approve, then read it as you wish.
Thread is like this:
1) Guy = isolated issue. I do not agree. Stewie not punching the guy. I agree with him. He handled it like a pro.
2) Theme of thread = General issue of drinking at shows and problems arising. I made a point regarding that.
They are seperate issues IMO. Him saying "sorry" prevents his total industry collapse, it doesn't make him and Vanilla friends. This isn't tough to understand. But that is the absolute best I can explain it to you. It isn't about "fixing" it.
If you fondled my girl at a show, I would have you escorted to the sidewalk. If you tried to attack, I would defend. It sounds like Stewie did the right thing under the circumstances he was put in. But we ALL HAVE OPINIONS.
Not to sound arrogant but I bring girls with me to parties at shows, clubs, bars, you name it. In all my time, I have never had to "beat someone down."
Again, we are all different.

If one of our associates we brought from Australia to a show got drunk, I'd leave him/her at home next time. If it was our affiliate manager, I'd fire him/her.
The shows are where you put your company on show to encourage others to do business with you. We work hard for a good reputation and I would be livid if it got trashed in one night by someone getting drunk and acting foolish. We'd be remembered as the company who did xxx at the xxx show. That's how I think of some of the past events!
It's not a soapbox thing for me. I think if it's your job to be "on" for 3-4 days a few times a year, then that's what you do.

There was a company whose reps got out of hand...really out of hand....details aren't necessary.....and they were summarily rounded up and brought home...and, then told never were they to act this way again.
The warning shot was fired and those who were smart are still with this particular company today.
The others? They're gone.
I agree with you, Cory. Had he owned up immediately and had he been so contrite and had it been a first time offense, maybe he could have kept his job. After all, everyone should be allowed one fuck up, as long as the damage is controllable.
Sometimes, it's not the actual mistake. It's what happens after the mistake. Unfortunately, as you've stated, he compounded his. And, while I'm sure he's a sweetie, the bottom line is the bottom line, which is set by Dave, who owns the company.
I think you also bring up a good point. When I started going to shows, I had to find that level of 'buzz' where I could be nice and loose; but, not ineffective....there are those who can get drunk and still remain 'with it'..and, there are those who simply cannot handle liquor or drugs or whatever the substance is.
I do believe that every rep should have boundaries set forth by the owner prior to the show.....then, should something like this happen, the rep, at least, has a definition of acceptable behaviour.
Ryan. I was in the biz three years before attending a show, so even in 2000, some of the 'display's were awesome to watch.....:)

Don't worry, Peaches. It's all on tape, preserved for posterity.
I would have ascertained the situation and based my decision on whether there were extenuating circumstances, monetary considerations, and the employee's attitude after the fact.
I have been known to drink at shows. I certainly hope I'm not perceived as one of the obnoxious ones; but, as others have pointed out, it's my company and it is my choice as to how people 'see' me.
I don't know whether or not I would have fired the person in question. I certainly would have talked to him, extensively; and, most likely, placed him on probation, if I sent him to another show.
There would have been a public apology across the boards, also, to anyone and everyone he may have offended with his behavior.
I tend to agree with Maureen... (and HI btw! :) )
I don't attend all that many shows...but I'm 'on' from the minute I arrive in the city where the show is being held. Actually, I tend to be aware even from the airport where I'm catching the last leg of the flight in, that I 'may' run into some industry people also travelling to the show.
And I stay 'on' up until I land in LA on my way home, cos you just never know where you're going to run into 'work' people.
Even tho I drink, I don't take it to the point where I lose control of my faculties (ok perhaps excepting that one night that ScottPB plied me with illicit substances and I ended up standing in the foyer of the Venetian talking to Sykk and Punky, swaying the whole time).
I LOVE attending the shows (hint hint Bill, time I did another one :awinky: )...but I'm always aware that despite the fact that they're enormous fun, and a huge adrenaline high, they are still, and most importantly, work, and my behaviour should reflect that, from beginning to end.

Nah, but I killed my neighbor’s dog by accident. Little fucker would go wild when we tried to sneak back into my parent's house late at night so we got the ingenious idea to give it the chocolate ex lax to quiet it down while we climbed in the window one time.
Little guy shit himself to death. I felt bad about that one.

Theres no excuse for someone to get drunk and disorderly...man handle a feel up a woman and then when told to cool it own down talk smack back to the owmans husband. It doesnt matter if its a convention or a house party.
Where Im from its called an instant ass whipping.
By industry standards, I'm a prude. I'll drink a bit, and have a good time, but I'm really not here to get drunk, laid or high. I'm in the industry to do biz and make money.
However, I also accept the fact that this isn't an industry where the trade shows and conventions consist of employees wear khaki pants and polo shirts with the company logo. Drones that wont say anything to a customer or client that hasn't been rehearsed and approved by a director of corporate communications or marketing.
There will be drinking, nudity, sex and what would in normal circles be socially unacceptable behavior. You best be prepared for it. And if you're an employer and sending someone who hasn't been before you best make sure they can handle it and prep them.
But there still have to be boundaries. To me, anything that harms another individual or puts them in harms way is out of bounds. Plain and simple. Starting a fight, throwing chairs into the atrium, physically making unwanted sexual advances especially after being asked to knock it off, all would fall into that category. And saying "oops, my bad, i'm sorry" doesn't make it all right in most cases.
Again, for me personally, i'd fire one of my guys for that type of thing. I cant even invision any of them putting themselves in such a position. But hey, again, I'm a prude.
I do not know all of the specifics of the incident nor have I talked to anyone directly involved, so I'm speaking in general terms only about what would be acceptable behavior in my eyes.

The fact that it went to two guys toe to toe, shows that something was out of order!
So Cory, say you hit one of the shows with your girl and I cop more than a feel, would “sorry I was tanked” fix it?
Again, I dont know the specifics here.
But I think anyone will tell you I'm not a violent person normally. However, I am protective. If it were my girl, I dont think anyone is gonna get a second ass grab in.
If I saw it, there would be a confrontation to explain that it wasn't acceptable, and the dude needs to step. I've had to do that before. Fortunately being a big guy and knowing how to "woof up" (southern term), I've never had anyone not realize that I was serious and push it further.
Most normal people stop when you make it clear they've committed an ass kicking offense that they should cease before the ass kicking commences. Those who are so stupid or have partaken in so much modern chemistry as to not be quite that reasonable need to be removed by the club management or hosts before it gets that far. When they aren't, that's how fights start.
In practice, in my old age, when I see those type of storm clouds brewing, I'm likely to exit before trouble starts. There's no business to be done in that environment. And I dont exactly have a party image that I need to protect.
Frankly, I've seen worse from the harassment point at non-adult tradeshows. It's amazing how you get a couple of thousand guys together, away from home and the wife, and their behaviour disintegrates into that of the average frat boy during rush week.
Shit happens, everyone makes mistakes. Hopefully Rinaldo will learn from his, otherwise he'll be another newbie nova. Probably a toss up as to which one at this point, imo.
We can all sit around and say we'd never do this or never do that, or we'd fire someone, tell them to go to rehab, etc. When it comes down to it, every situation is unique and who knows what any of us might do.
As my dear friend Nick is so fond of saying, we have all the morals we can afford. It's not because we're in adult, it's because we're human.

Nice! :)
As Jesus said , "Let he who is without sin cast the first stone."
((what is omitted is that immediate following this remark a huge rock flew out of the crowd and twatted the poor victim of the stoning in the head resulting in Jesus sighing and saying "Sometimes Mum you piss me right off!" ))
Frankly anyone who knows me is aware that if I was the husband I would have smacked the shit out of him.
I think people that grew up in either Europe or Aussie are far more likely to react with violence than North Americans.

Ditto. Heck, the MCI and Sprint conventions make our shows look tame!
Bottom line - we've all made mistakes. Sometimes we could apologize and everything's fine, sometimes we get more severe ramifications.
But as far as the poll is concerned, everything is, and should be, done on a case by case basis.

With all due respect to both Nick and KK, morals don't have anything to do with this situation.
This is business, pure and simple; and, if an employee acts in a way that can cost the company current or future revenues, then the situation calls for an action, be it a lecture or a firing.

Thanks for the thread I actually get a smile on my face the more this gets dragged through the mud.
FIrstly I do not recall grabbing anyone without permission, if any of you go to message boards as often as you obviously seem to do you'd have seen my photos with about 50 women all smiling with their breast exposed blowing me kisses and what have you.
I do not need to harrass women I'm 23 and I'm not hideous.
What seems to have happened is everyone decided to get up on that Horse and talk shit down to me, well everyone has done stupid shit, I have never called anyone out after 3 and a half years of going to shows, I've seen chairs thrown off balconies, people arrested, prostetutes running out of rooms crying, come on. I've apologized to the masses for being drunk, that I have no shame admitting. I have learned my lesson as well.
FIrstly I'm not going to drink like I used to, I thought about it and I really don't enjoy it anyways, you wake up the next day feeling like total shit.
Second, I won't be over exposing myself trying to brand whomever I work for. I was way too far in the forefront and it burned me in the end.
TO those parties involved I'm sorry this lead to a public discussion, I would have preferred a phone call at the very least.
Cory I did apologize both through email and in it's own thread, they accepted my apology for being drunk and for my immature comment in her thread and that is one of the things I truly regret doing.

The sad thing is, it's not just the employees - it's the company owners and principals as well that get away with type of behavior pretty much scot-free. You don't have to be "content" to be treated badly by drunken "professionals". Not only is it humiliating for the woman when it happens to then, being the subject of debate about it later is even more embarassing. Good thing the women in this business are tough.

I will agree with you. Its not the worst thing that has happened nor will it be the worst thing that ever will happen.
You at least have a few things in your favor...
1. You apologized
2. You have the stones to show up and respond.
and most importantly
3. You didnt come up with a lame ass excuse of "Blacking out" or blaming it on someone "spiking your drink".
This thread wasnt meant to single you out. Its more of my reaction to a couple of things that disgust me when it comes to some peoples attitude in this business.
1. Women/Content in this business are whores and are to be treated as such.
2. Its ok to behave like an ass in this business if you apologize... even if you could have killed someone hurling chairs at them.
If it were me [and Im sure you probably have] Id spend the effort on making things right with the women and their husbands.

I'm being honest and open about this: I do not and have not, in my short life span, ever accept that sort of behavior and I would make every effort to apologize and make things right.
However I'm also not goign to beg, I did make mistakes, the most I can do is offer to mend the scars it's created.
I have no reservations handing out my cell number or my email address if anyone so wishes to reach me directly and that's how I prefer to handle things if speaking in person isn't an option. I am a little disappointed that things were carried out on openly. But I deserved it I assume through my moronic comments

Rinaldo, I never cared about what you did as much as how you handled it after the fact. I am friends with her, and had you just said sorry, I would have advised her to just let it go (not that i would have had to). You brought it on yourself by insulting her. You are kind of the guy that cheated on his girl and then bragged to all her friends about it. It isn't the worst thing, hell, if we are speaking in terms of just being intoxicated, I could likely match you. You just aren't very good at damage control. As most will tell you, I am :)
Gonzo, I think you are being a bit holier than now. You are asserting you were raised with certain standards, keep in mind that some people may view sending a camera crew to a woman's home and posting it all over the Internet as below the ethics threshold. Posting personal information may fall into that category as well. At the end of the day, I don't care. One of the reasons I have this job, is due to my ability to write, appeal to clients, entertain (sometimes involves drinking with), and keep our company in a professional light (these are my exterior duties that is). So when I see others behave counter to this, I view it like you view someone intoxicated at a show. But to each there own.

No holy water here. Im not catholic.
Here are a few facts for you though since the Confucy episode seems to be a curiosity.
1. I never sent anyone to anybodys home.
2. A person with A camera does not constitute a camera crew.

So when I see others behave counter to this, I view it like you view someone intoxicated at a show. But to each there own.
VooMan, thanks brother. Always good seeing you.
HP, we agree more than we disagree. Now, consider this, what if you hired me to promote your product. Would you want me to go to the show and be a fun. likeable guy? Or some stiff? With the former it may be irresponsible to assume that nothing gets done :)
Cory, Cory, Cory....
:( for someone that likes to keep reminding everyone how mature he is, and how to deal with their problems,
You sure do seem to dwell on you own, and sling shit
FUCKING HYPOCRITE
and you know exactly what I am talking about, so live by your own words .
Try that out once see how it is how about that ?
I am not slinging anything. We are opening up in this thread? Or not? No dwelling. Gonzo and I do not see eye to eye on a lot of things, that is life. That is a reality. Your reply is aggressive, his in not. I think he understands that.
I am merely pointing out how we all have different views. That is all. If that is a problem, just let me know. You say the word, I will stop posting here.

No holy water here. Im not catholic.
Here are a few facts for you though since the Confucy episode seems to be a curiosity.
1. I never sent anyone to anybodys home.
2. A person with A camera does not constitute a camera crew.
3. If your information is publically availible on the internet how can it be called private? It's published to the world.
Information wants to be free.
As you say though each to their own. We just don't share the same views.
Exactly what I am saying. Maybe I don't understand you?
Are you saying you are upset at those who are drunk at a show? Or those that are drunk and exhibit some type of outlandish behavior?
They really are not the same.

I went back over to the Zoo where all this was aired out orginally since both sides were brought to light.
In all fairness to Rinaldo.... looking at the chronology of things ... it seems that his behaviour wasnt called into question [at least on the board] until he said that 'Niller had ugly tits.
Its hard to follow over there but it seems shortly after he made that comment was when he was "outted" as a bad boy.
Am I misreading the thread? Is there any truth to the rumor that its drove her to get a new boob job?

You gotta be kidding? Only a hypocrite would whine about outlandish behaviour at a show and then run around bare chested in a ill fitting fur coat in the same breath.
Its just a matter of respect and common courtesy.
Some folks have said this goes on at mainstream shows. Having been to several in the past [Comdex/InterOp/CES] I cant say that Ive ever seen it happen. I have heard of people being fired for haveing too much to drink and emabrrinsg the company. Nothing like what we are discussing.
My experience in mainstream has been that if you act like an ass at a trade show your fired on the spot and in some cases issued a Greyhound ticket instead of a Delta one.

Not a damn thing. If I hire a rep that gets drunk at a show and gets in a chair throwing match with Wiseman but picks up that whale, he gets to stay as well :)
If Rinaldo worked for me, I would not have fired him at all. I would have sat him down and said, "ok, you are here, you need to be here, do this and all will be fine:)"
If he can do it, all is fine. If not, things are different.
I got into an issue at a show many years back. KK likely recalls. That said, I handled it like a pro. I didn't hurt anyone, was more just annoying. But hell, I am annoying sober :)

Nick,
200 joins a day?
Vanilla is a friend, but Rinaldo made a bad PR move. People can say what they like about me, I tend to be good at the PR stuff :)
Could you guys at WEG make up your mind!!!
Peaches says you'll lose a whale over principle!
Cory says you won't!!!
Which is it??????
;-))))
I think its the difference in the way you hold it in your mouth.
ahahahahahahahahahah
Nawww....
What they mean is...
5 joins a day , there principles hold true.
200 joins a day..."""what fucking principles"""
ahahahahahahahahahahahahah
We are all whores , the only variable is the price and currency.
We have the morals we can afford.
Hell its nice to be right!!!!!
Note: - this is not a criticisim...I think it is sound business :)

Don't care. I don't.
Now, there are exceptions to rules...
-Someone called Cory a jerk. No prob....take the account. I will even buy you beers. Ask around, I have done it before :)
-Someone gets loaded at a show and runs naked through the lobby...why would I care? Take the account.
I am not going to list acceptions, that would be digging a hole :)
But anyone who knows me knows full well I am highly tolerant. I may have a good time at shows, but I don't put myself first. Ask Aeon :)

Peaches is right. Sounds strange, but she is right.
I said I wouldn't. But at the end of the day, the owners make the decisions :)
I can plead a great case. But it always depends on what happened. It just doesn't come up that often.

I'd like to say for the record , for me this is good natured ribbing.
Not a piss.
I have no problem with Cory (don't know the guy but am looking fwd to meeting him) and frankly have always liked peaches after years of arguing with her on boards.
I just like watching people who take the high ground squirm when it turns into a morass underneath them.

I'm always right. If people could just ACCEPT that fact, your lives would just be so much easier :P
It just doesn't come up that often.
That is true. And if you think about it, in the grand scheme of things, with as many shows as have happened, with as much drinking and playing that goes on, this situation REALLY doesn't come up that often at all. In 7 years I think I can count the times on one hand where a rep for a company has done something so awful that they were fired/people stopped doing business with a company.

Yep, only shades of grey. Totally.
But keep in mind, we went astray. Rinaldo is not a whale, he worked for Dave.
You don't have me squirming, as I said, ask around, I don't care. Traffic is traffic, singups are signups. :)

Spin? Counterspin?
There you go.
My point exactly. His mistake was after the events :)
Now Im confused....so the groping, man handling and isolant mouth wasnt a mistake?
Or it was ok until he made those comments?
They are both mistakes Gonzo, but one was more harmful to his bottom line than the other.
He groped. Now, lets say he apologizes to these girls and he never makes the comment. YOU would never know it happened :)
I can tell you, if he apologized to Vanilla, she would not have said a word. If he had not apologized, I still doubt she talks. He makes a nasty remark to her in a thread being used for her own promotion? Different story :)
Go back and read Raven's last post, she explained this pretty well.
I am not arguing over ethics right now, just over how he could have made his life better. Go back and read his post, he seemed to agree with me as well.
If you want to isolate what he did and discuss it, let me know. They just are not one in the same. That make better sense?

I have been known to drink at shows. I certainly hope I'm not perceived as one of the obnoxious ones; but, as others have pointed out, it's my company and it is my choice as to how people 'see' me.
You know Brad, you are well known as a rabblerowzing badass. You're always out of control at shows, and your crazy staff and their endless cigar smoking and coffee drinking are just as bad.
LOLOLOL
I always enjoy hanging around with you, Bill, Cory, etc... at shows. Some of the most professional guys around. :)
At least he didnt claim to "black out" and hit the trifecta.
Sounds like serious errors in judgement all the way around.
Heres a rhetorical question since Florida is looming in the near future.
Knowing that this sometimes happens... why do you think that some sponsors throw these parties where the centerpiece is a photoshoot/sex show?
Hormones, $200 cameras and no aids tests are on the menu!

How you kept your cool being the board face for AC is beyond me. You have any idea how much hatred would boil over when those rejection emails for the pettiest shit came rolling in? There were times I looked at the monitor and did nothing but utter the vilest obscenities known to man. How you took being the public brunt of that in stride really is impressive.
On a side note, remind me if I ever start a program, to sink into oblivion and hire you to front it. You've got the people skills thing down. Being polite to the old scammers on this board should be proof enough.

HP, we agree more than we disagree. Now, consider this, what if you hired me to promote your product. Would you want me to go to the show and be a fun. likeable guy? Or some stiff? With the former it may be irresponsible to assume that nothing gets done :)
Now that's an excellent question to add to the thread....
Short answer is I'd actually prefer a beautiful blonde with big tits and an ass that tastes like French vanilla ice cream to promote my stuff. Trick is, I'd like her to have a brain in her head whether she lets anyone know it or not. Anyone knows one, I might be hiring....seriously.
But in reality, I'd take anyone who can do the job and deliver results. And I dont care what their sales and marketing technique at shows is so long as their actions dont expose the company to undo risk or negatively impact the image.
If their deal is they like to load everyone up, buy drinks and get a bit tanked, I dont care as long as they deliver the results and can handle their liquor. I'm ok with that.
It goes back to what I said earlier, as long as they dont put themselves or anyone else in harm's way, I'll only look at the results.
However, toss a chair, rape someone, snort coke in the middle of a casino in front of a couple of hundred people, etc, and you're a fired ass.
Would losing 200 sales a day make me change my mind? No, I dont even hesitate, take your 200 sales a day and step. My principles aren't for sale.
I guess me and GonZo were raised on the back of the same horse. Just because I'm willing to peddle porn, doesn't mean I have zero morals or respect for laws and common decency toward my fellow human beings.
