Looking to see what you guys are running at, as I'm 800x600. Am I really out of date?

Also what screen res do you build your sites to?

Although in the lead now in the voting I don't think it will hold up. I have mine at 800x600.

Hey Becki :)

I run my screen resolution pretty much as high as the monitor will allow (and still be readable).

But, programmers, webmasters etc usually run a higher resolution than the every day surfer (because as you will find out as friends ask you for tech support, many surfers don't even know they can change screen res) :)

My wife runs her at 800x600 but that is mainly because of a vision issue, she likes big text and all.

I design for 800X600 because I know that will work for most folks out there whether they are running a higher res than that or not.

I usually design inside a table at either 650 or max of 700 wide. However, there are times I will just use percentages, depends on what I am making :)

Wow someone is at 1280x1024 they must have excellent eyes or the largest monitor ever

While my screen is 1014x768 I never surf with my browser full screen and keep it about 580 pixels wide.

I stopped using one sponsor after they made their admin so wide that even at 1024 I still had to scroll a bit.

Thats the way I run my laptop. Although, in the poll I am 1024X768.

My laptop has a wide screen so I go for as high as resoilution as it will handle.

I'm 1024 x 768 on a 19" flat screen

For even more info check your server stats and most will give you the screen resolutions your surfers use by % and or amount

Thanks Sarettah :)

I figured that 800x600 was a good size to build for.

I'm with your wife, I like the text on my screen so big I can see it from outside

Having to scroll sideways at an res really gets my back up as well!

Well, back in high school, in sex education class, they told us that if we went "all the way" before we got married, we would go blind...

So, just like you, I only did it enough to have to wear glasses :yowsa:

1280x1024 is native on most 19" flat screens, and that's what I'm used to looking at most often now.

My notebook is actually 1400x1050 with an ultrasharp screen.

I like the screen real estate, though my eyes are getting old, so I do use the "large fonts" setting so text is slightly oversized.

When designing, I still recommend designing for 800x600 though because even if a user has higher resolution, most people do not surf with their browser windows maximized.

My neighbor uses 2560x1600 on a 30" monitor.
http://www.apple.com/displays/specs.html

I do dream of one day getting a 30" monitor but it also means that I would have to trade in my two year old 17" Powerbook for the new 17" Powerbook in order to be able to drive a 30" monitor.

I run 15+ applications open all the time using two monitors and I often drag stuff between windows which you can't do if you have windows maximized.

If you hit F9 on a Mac it makes all your open windows small enough that they will all fit on the screen, in my case two screens, and then you click on the window that you want to work in.

Macs are nice but from what I hhave seen, you pay more money to get the same amount of power as you could from a PC.

I have absolutely nothing against Macs other than the price point and the proprietary shit (hardware point of view) doesn't turn me on much .

It's called Expose and no Windows does not have anything like it.
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/expose/

You can also hide applications along with all their windows so you can hide all but the application that you are working in. You can then use the Dock to switch between applications or hit Command Tab.

I just upgraded the HD in my laptop using a PC drive. Macs use the same memory and other parts as PCs too. The mother board is from Apple and the processors are from Motorola and IBM depending on if it is a G4 or G5 chip.

I use a laptop only these days. Really you can't do a whole lot of upgrading to a laptop no matter who it is from and Apple does make nice laptops.

This is the newer version of mine, still looks the same.

Sounds like they have been getting less proprietary then. That's always good when you can pick and choose from a variety of manufacturers and price points when you want to add on. :)
