View Full Version : Are we overmedicated?

So I was at Walgreens yesterday. They had 7 employees working in the pharmacy and they were still slammed. Are we overmedicating ourselves or what? Man, if ya feel bad go for a jog or something.

My medication keeps me in a constant state of "wrapped up in cotton wool". So running is out of the question.

My brother had regular been eating pain killers which have acetylsalicylic acid in them (ex. Aspirin)... Sometime ago he started to have severe pain in his left side of his body up to his neck. He went to the doctor got checked, and they found his liver numbers to be high. Still having pain, then he also got a ultrasound scan, which showed everything was fine, which was a relief, since acetylsalicylic acid can/will damage the liver if used over longer periods.

While the doctors took some more test, and he waited for the results, then he said fuck the pain killers, and got a dietitian to make him a personal diet. This diet took into account his work schedule, times of the day when he felt low energy etc. He then turned his life around - after 1 month he had no more pain, had much more energy, and lost 8 pounds.

His liver number is getting lower, and he is losing weight without really doing anything extreme other than changing his diet to what is normal food (fish, chicken, high-fiber bread, fruit, and lots of vegetables and water) and when to eat it.

I think many people could avoid pain and future diseases by simply changing their diet, and stop over-medicating themself (do you really know what you are taking?)

I don't do medication at all.

If I've got a cold or flu then I suffer through it, if I'm in pain I ask Toni to stop hitting me.

Diet is a massive part of being healthy, most say exercise is but I'd go with healthy diet first and foremost.

I've been to the sawbones twice since 1992. Once was because I injured my back pretty bad doing concrete and the other was because I had a nail go all the way through my hand. Both were required by my workers compensation rules. I don't trust them, I don't need them. Once you have taken away all the different medications, your body takes over and it does what it's supposed to do...heals you. I take vitamins and swear by 1000mg of Vitamin C daily but other than that, I don't fuck with those quacks. They are just looking to experiment on you anyway. They try this and try that and "let's up your dosage to 250mg and see what happens". Fuck that. It's like paying someone so that they will let you be their lab rat. Doctors are for the most part, fucking clueless.

Besides all that, this past 2 weeks I have started the South Beach diet. I am in phase 1 right now which takes away all carbs for the most part. I haven't felt better since I was 16, and I may feel even better than I did then. I have more energy all day long than I can ever remember having. I have gone from someone who spends all their time locked in my computer room to someone who WANTS to go play basketball with my son or ride bikes with my family. I had become quite the lazy bastard before I made this life change. So I would say, yes, diet has ALOT to do with how you feel. Read up on bad carbs and the roller coaster they put your body through and you sort of have a decent perspective on it. Those glucose spikes are a bitch. Cheetos and Krispy Kremes are the DEVIL I say!!!!

Yeah , fuck drugs.

See a shrink for an hour a week , and just talk.Even if its about thinking seeing a shrink is a waste of time.
(Do not launch into a real rant about how "this is a waste of time" ,as half way through the rant his/her pen will be smoking from writing notes.

You'll soon find out yr nuts , but you aren't the only one thats nuts, and its no one fault for you being nuts LOL

Just never ever tell him/her that you have:
a.) wanted to kill anyone
b.) plotted to kill anyone
b.) are thinking of killing anyone

Basically stay clear of anything to do with killing ,or the men in white coats come!

Shit gotta run , its them :)

As for Americans being over-medicated, you only have to watch the commericials after 11am to see that they are.

Med companies advertising one after another, you feeling sleeping? You have aching limbs? Dont like socializing with people? You gotta be ill, buy our medicine and we'll fix you up but, only a doctor can prescribe your condition.

Crazy world we live in.

In contrast, in the UK i think the only medical companies that advertise on TV are for throat lozengers or asprins. Non of this Zoloft, Xanax, etc etc bullshit.

They have even turned to spamming people via regular mail too, we had a mail delivery a few months ago which out of 25 letters, 10 of them were envelopes stuffed with 'money off vouchers' for medicinals.

Are we overmedicated?

Don't know, ask me after I wash down my Xanax with espresso (still waking up from last night's drinks). Have to take my Percocet for my shoulder and arthritis, I'll wash those down with another espresso. Probably need a beer while cooking tonight and another after dinner espresso. Of course then I'll need my sleeping pills before I go to bed. If I get a bad anxiety attack and need immediate relief I'll pop a few valium

please note the sarcasm in the above post

I do remember the ad, but not because I bought any. I remember the ad because I thought it was pretty fucking absurd.

If I remember the ad correctly, I can't take it anyway. :( Something about the liver and the days when I was overmedicated by Dr. Beam, Dr. Daniels, Dr. Bud-Lite, Dr. Quervo, Dr. Baccardi, et al.

Well, He's right though.

With my condition I am already imune to 2 different antibiotics. Im only 34 now and Im sure this is going to continue throughout my whole life. I might eventually become imune to all of them. Then I think could actually die from this. Its scary.

And it would not matter if I stopped doing cam either. I got them all the time before I even started in this business.

For people like yourself the MRSA virus must be a real worry. :(

Currently pharmaceutical companies are trying to develop new antibiotics and it's not an easy task.

As TheEnforcer posted most people don't finish the course of tablets they have been prescribed so the virus becomes immune.

Acetecylic acid is Aceteminophen, IE.. tylenol, and is horrible for your liver.

if you get a 5/500 vicodin, the 5 is vicodin, the 500 is APAP, i.e. tylenol. those things can burn through a liver faster than mickey mantle.
