We recently aquired a 3 letter domain with some real "general" type in traffic. Its type ins for a major isp/searchengine/etc.

The main domain gets lots of typeins but then also there is dozens of subdomains with a nice ammount of (more targeted) traffic. Those were easy to target, because judging from the subdomains they mistyped it was easy to see what they are looking for.

**as of the 19th**

My question, with no real knowledge what they are after (except the site itself) what would you recommend with trying?

The options are wide open allthough i would steer to trying stuff with a little less of an edge to it, nothing to "adult" on the page at first, im thinking of a couple things but am very curious to see what you all think.

Opinions and flames begin :rokk:

Turn it in to a portal. Offer games, email, personals... in a nutshell turn it into a mini yahoo... you've already got the traffic to get it started.

This is a great idea but im a little leary of doing this and heres why...hypothetically im not sure the laws about building

msm.com into a site like msn.com **again hypothetical

They might have a little problem with that..heh Im not to educated in the law aspects of such actions but it is something that is being looked at. I think as long as it remains original and true to itself it would be allright, but at the same aspect the business model we like to run isnt exactly built on high maintence sites, but moreso on quantities of lesser maintenance sites.

Hence one of the reasons for grabbing these types of domains.

Of course you would have to be totally different from anything, but I offered yahoo only as and idea of the kind of things that can be done.

Portal type sites are a great way of pushing ads in to peoples faces. Ever seen a yahoo mail box without an ad in it :)

Check that site out. Tons of mainstream things to promo. Dunno if that's what you're looking for but there's the link anyway. :)

Jiz..if the site is msm.com then you are in trouble with Mr. gates unless you lose that traffic fast fast...

I would sorely reccomend just redirecting all of it to http://www.weekend-jewelry.com or http://www.paperjewels.com (2 sites I hate and want to get in trouble, ya know)

Messing with Gates is just asking for trouble.....

Trust me :groucho:

Or you could do Slav and Colin or NickP recommended.............

Great suggestion slavdogg. And everyone else above.

We will try the parking for a month or two and see how it pans out, as far as the others saying to sell it, the domain is not for sale.

Is there a major company with those initials....yeaaassssssiirrr actually a couple of them, but the type ins are most definately targeted towards the parent domain, and looking for a portal or search engine similar to msn, aol, etc.

Anyrate, all ideas appreciated and taken for face value, thanks to all.

Inabon...hitting you up now, im not posting the complete stats but im more then willing to let you see them. :)

JizBiz, good luck
for what you described DS would do a better job monetising on a domain like yours a 3 letter domain, not targeted, random traffic.
http://www.domainsponsor.com/tracker/ref.php?ref_id=8&s=0

for anything targeted or semi targeted, generic non adult names, we can do a much better job than anyone else out there. Hit me up if need to monetise those type of names in the future.

Nick, same response to your comment :)
hit me up and i'll make you the most money
