Grimm - the price of oil has more to do with lack of gas production plants ( we have not built a new one in your life time - one is being built now but will take another 2 years), higher demand for oil, and the weakness of the dollar ( which is what oil is priced in on markets).

Might be time to go Hybrid baby!

im ready for my hybrid SUV:)

i know it has more to do with that, but the federal government could call collusion and put a cap on pricing. the fact that station to station haqs fluctuations of 10 c a gallon is just price gouging.

i wonder what the effect of a cap on the big oil companies pricing would have?

I paid $2.44/gallon yesterday a few blocks from the house.
$2.35/gallon in Miami.

I think $2.50 will be the resistence number -- that seems to hold some real psychological barrier. Oil is just under $54/barrel and Opec said they would ramp up production. Personally, I think it will hover around $2.50/gallon for 3-4 months before it starts to drop -- indifferent to the price of a barrel.

There are things that higher gas prices curb -- like discretionary spending. One might consider site memberships to be discretionary spending. :)

According to CNN the other day, polls indicated that most people would not strongly object until they see $3.00 a gallon...

Which means that the gas companies (oil companies whatever) will push it to $3.00 now that the pollsters have told them where the limit is...

Defendant: Well Judge, how much is my bail.
Judge: How much did you bring ?
Defendant: about $2000

I can't be the first one to make that parallel.

Sunny weather on the Eastern US seems to detract from signups.
Romantic Holidays seem to be good for signups.
Christmas Break seems to be good -- people want to try out that porn on their new computers to see just how good the video card is.
Thanksgiving is for family, seems to not be good.

But, the last time gas prices rose like this, signups seemed to slow. Even Walmart reported lower same-store sales. The luxury boutiques didn't seem to notice a drop in sales. So, if sales drop, it would probably suggest that the working masses are the ones buying porn rather than millionaires.

Just my opinion.

Well, the traditional logic says that even in a depression two things will always sell and that's sex and booze....

But fortunately for the liquor companies there aren't 2,000,000 stores out there giving away free booze

I wasn’t being insulting about the Germans or the Americans… ask anyone that knows me here… I’m equally obnoxious with everyone :)
I valge for Trev as being an Equal Opportunity and Unilateral Pain in the Keester!!! :agrin:

Also, rendh, if you're so thin-skinned to take offense that quickly, your shelf life on Oprano is going to be about one day. Just some friendly advice. B)
No Im not that thin skinned I was trying to be a little sarcastic, Im guessing it didn't come off the way I hoped it would :( [/b][/quote]
Sarcasm is always welcomed!!!

....Ok, that's not true. I was just being sardonic. :P

I know I'm new here n'all but BOO HOO!!

I'm paying like $5+ per gallon!
Where in Europe are you?

Grimm - the price of oil has more to do with lack of gas production plants ( we have not built a new one in your life time - one is being built now but will take another 2 years), higher demand for oil, and the weakness of the dollar ( which is what oil is priced in on markets).

Might be time to go Hybrid baby!
I'm in the UK and I just can't stand "ohpoor me" when I'm paying more than double you guys and have been all my driving life!

Just so's ya know, adjusting for inflation gas isn't yet the highest it's been in the US:

(but it will be if/when it hits $3 a gallon)
There ya go again!!!!

ruining a perfectly good thread by bringing research and facts into it!!

Paid $2.47 to fill up the Liberty last night ... and I'm fresh out of my 1980 dollars, so knowing that it was more expensive back then doesn't help a whole hell of a lot.
