In my hometown most of the driveways and roads are made with base of "slag" and from my living room window everynite at 11:30 i can see the sky turn fire orange as they dump 25 to 35 tons of molten slag out of the pots, all fresh from the smelter.

This is later broken up and used as fill or for building roads, driveways and other jobs where gravel or rock is needed.
