Having fun with hotlinkers....

Because of lots of traffic from image searches, I do not have paperjewels locked (through htaccess) against hotlinking of images... But, because a lot of folks like Jen's jewelry pics, we end up with a lot of people hotlinking into their blogs and such... I used to be real friendly about it and contact the person and tell them not to do it. I even went as far as offering up space on my other server for them to pull the images from. Usually I was met with idocy and assholeness, so for a while I got downright nasty and sent them stuff like tubgirl instead of the image they requested. Then after thinking about the possible legal ramifications of putting stuff like that on some 10 year olds blog, I started feeding them a 1X1 image. That lasted for a while until I realized that noone noticed...lol...

So, my alternative plan became a not so nice, but not pornographic image to serve up to them.

Anyway, this morning I noticed a couple of new bloggers pulling from the server and I went and added them to my redirect list. Then I went out to make sure the redirect was working.

Best one to date was this morning because someone was using an image for their background..lol... http://www.2impromptus.blogspot.com/ I don't know if he will notice the change (I would hope he would because it is pretty fucking blatant) but in case he/she does, here is what their site looks like right now:

Not all are blogs and journals, some are forums... I always check before I block em because if it is a forum and they are discussing cool jewelry and such and talking about where to find it, I leave em...

Basically, if there might be a sale to be had, I leave it alone.. But the bloggers and journals never give credit, they just hotlink the damn thing.. And when I tell em if they put a link to the site there that they can continue the hotlink, they just ignore it...

List used to be longer but some of them can actually take a hint.

Yeah, I've been doing this same type thing since the beginning of time.

About once a month I go thru the refererer logs and have a really good time. A few of our mainstream sites are raped very heavily thanks to image searches.

I do look at the sites that are doing the raping so I can be sure to give them something that is "in context" either that amuses the hell out of myself or serves as a well placed ad.
