Smoked off and on and still hit the cuban cohiba box once in a while ;) I do seriously enjoy the odd cigar every now and again

I´m the only one in my family that have never smoked, which probably makes me a former passive smoker  (they are all "clean" now ;-)))

Smoked for several years but quit 18 or so years ago. Too much smoking really bothers me but my friends who smoke are usually quite polite about where and when they smoke and most if not all do it outside only.

Quit smoking cigs about 11 years ago..went from marboro reds to newports. Then quit from so many cases of strep throat.

I like cigars, but might smoke one once a year or so.

Tasted it... enough to realize that people who did start smoking really had to work hard at it... which puzzles me to this day....

It would be interesting to do a psychological study of the types of personalities that are attracted to this industry.

Smoking is a very common trait as the poll reviews.

I believe if you surveyed any other group of people at random, those numbers would be inverted. I haven't gone to try to dig up any numbers, but I would bet the percentage of smokers is now maybe 25% or less in the U.S.

First page I found on google agrees:

But adult webmasters often chain smoke. It's one of the reasons I do not go to more trade shows than I do. Anywhere you go to network and mingle, you're going to be smelling smoke. I swear, when I get home and open the suitcase, the whole fucking thing smells like an ashtray just from being around all the second hand smoke.

One of the reasons I like Vegas for shows is because the casinos replace the air so often that even though they're filled with smokers there is no gray haze. I can still smell it and dont like it, but at least I dont get that pounding headache that comes with being in a closed up room with it.

At most of the other shows, smoking isn't allowed inside buildings. I actually come back smelling a lot less like smoke at the other shows than from Vegas.

Also realize there are several in this poll that USED to smoke, present company included. Ergo, the poll numbers are at least a few percentage points out of whack (Colin?)

However, since many of us work at home, there's not the "stigma" involved in smoking (i.e. having to leave the office, getting dirty looks from your co-workers as you take break #22, etc.) so there's more availability to chain smoke. And let's not kid ourselves, sitting in front of a computer all day is damn boring. We probably all have oral fixations too - some of us have just replaced cigarettes with food. :P

True, but everyone knows all the real business is done at the bar.

Good point on the reformed smokers, but from observations I'd say it's still better than 50%. The social smokers and part time smokers all flame up with a vengance when they're out drinking.

Two years ago I would have read your post and thought to myself... blah blah blah... second hand smoke... blah... blah...

BUT! I sit here today a smoker without a room in his own house and have done since my son was born... I smoke outside, as does my fair lady, for our son’s sake! It wasn't until the midwife explained everything they 'suspect' from secondary smoking that I realised my boy will have clean air to breath whenever I can control it!

We actually quit together while Toni was pregnant... 9 months, 3 weeks and 2 days... no problems... till we both went out on a night out to celebrate.... 3 hours later we were committed again... really sad and weak I know...
