Ask Jeeves Inc. to Be Bought for $2 Billion

AC/InterActiveCorp, the Internet company headed by Barry Diller, said today that it had signed an agreement to acquire Ask Jeeves Inc., the nation's fourth-largest search engine company, for about $1.9 billion.
In announcing the deal, Mr. Diller said Ask Jeeves was one of many search engines founded almost 10 years ago, and that it "was one of the very few that established itself."
The chief executive of Ask Jeeves, Steve Berkowitz, said, "Joining IAC will enable us to play on a much larger field."

Ask Jeeves will remain an independent brand with its headquarters in Oakland, Calif. The deal is subject to regulatory approval and the approval of Ask Jeeves shareholders.
