men will all have menial office jobs working under female supervisors ... women will be running all successful corporations, will be in charge of the government and will keep groups of men as slaves.

no wait, that will take 20 years

The internet in 5 years will be very different ... there will be no need for a computer, PDA's and all portable solutions will be permanently connected to the internet via wireless towers in all major cities.

I think there will be a mass swing away from spending every minute in front of this computer and people will be getting outside in the fresh air ... with the portable computer LOL

I think most of us who have been in this biz a while will get walked over by the next generation of kids who know about the next wave of technology while we are still sitting here clinging to our 17 inch monitors and box computers.

Most of our skills will be obselete because there will be software to do almost everything we now do by hand (already is to some degree).

Oh and we will all live on the moon and drink moon juice

:biglaugh:

In 3-5 years I would agree, the affiliate will be obsolete. Company's that decide to keep affilaites will do it because the choose to , not because they are needed. As the adult internet enters its akward teenage years, you see company after company spending a ton of time and money providing for affiliates . Hosting, Exclusive content ( per affiliate) , unlimited FHG's , exclusive FHG's for affiliates. ect........... The number that many are not looking at yet. ( I'm sure alot of people here are, but hey it's a smart group here) is the cost per affiliate. The CPA is rising, and will soon reach a point where most companies will come to the conclusion that their money is best served in being aggressive about developing their own traffic sources or purchasing traffic, gallery spots, ect.

Don't misunderstand me, there will always be a place for the productive affialite. But I think the part timers with high demands and unrealistic expectations have a bumpy road ahead.

As far as new technology..............I can't wait to show you what I have come up with....I will speak about it at Oprano first when the time has come.

That is the one easy decision I have made recently. Hell when I tell you whats up.

A. It's business related, so Oprano is the natural choice.
B. It's business related so it just might stay on the first page for more than 5 mins.
C. This IS where the industry people come who will be able to understand it.

pornkings, GREAT post a few back

:wnw:

lately i've been doing a lot of comparisons between what is paid to affiliates and what it would cost to do an absolute blitzer of a marketing campaign that saturates the entire world with a product ...

TV, Radio, Print and skywriting all come in cheaper than 50% of earnings, even on a medium sized program doing around 100 sales per day.

I dunno about that. There will always be a place for a big stupid box ontop of someones desk. I think the one thing we are doing as we take leaps and bounds towards newer technologies, is that we make bigger and bigger gaps between the different types of hardware that people use.

To talk about how we see 'adult internet' and how we see the 'internet' in 1 to 5 years time i also believe to be 2 very different things. The adult industry has always been pioneers in regards to introducing new technologies into the market, and I see it being no different in regards to mobile and wireless technology.

I would imagine that in the next few years, the internet becomes less of an information free for all, and starts to get heavily restricted and to an extent, even policed. It's chaos theory in action on a global scale.

Personally from a technological point of view, im looking forward to the different interfaces that allow us to interact with our computers. Even in the video game industry, look at revolutionary new ways to interact with games such as the nintendo DS (touch screen, stylus, microphones), playstations (dance matts, eye toys) and gamecube (wireless controllers and bongo drums)

I think I'm rambling now ... tends to happen when ive had no sleep

careful Yug, statements like this can end up infamous ... just like 'a computer will never be smaller than a room' and 'a computer will never need to be faster than XX' .... remember those famous statements from history in the last 10 years?

don't confuse not wanting something to happen with the reality of progress ;-)

So how exactly has adult been a pioneer in the mobile and wireless technology world?

Patting ourselves on the back when we've done nothing to deserve it is getting a little old. the porn industry may have pioneered the internet ... but look at the mess we made of it too? The telco's will never let us get our hands on the mobile market to the extent we have with the internet - you will understand more what I mean when you try to get the billing organised for your project.

The reality is that porn might have started people's usage of internet technology on a big scale, but the music, entertainment, travel and almost every other industry has bipassed us in their creative usage of it - and now that mobile phone content is such a big area, who is kicking absolute butt? The music industry and anyone who owns the rights to their content that can be distributed in this format ...

Just look at MTV ..........

The internet will continue to "build out" in terms of transport and delivery for the next 5 years.

I've been saying for 10 years that by 2010 we'll be able to pull high speed access to the internet out of the air virtually anywhere and that it'll be affordable enough to be widespread. 5 years away and I see no reason to alter that prediction.

That brings about a whole new level of connectivity and "real time" applications. I would anticipate life altering applications we haven't yet thought of to come about as a result of large portions of society being "online" virtually all the time. May seem unappealing to some of us, but note the current group of teens and their IM and SMS usage via cellphone.

Blogs are only the beginning. There'll be enormous amounts of information and home grown content flowing onto the internet. And search engines as we know them today will seem primitive. My guess is we have true "personal" searchs in 5 years, the engines may even custom build content from multiple sources to tailor information to be presented to us EXACTLY the way the individual wants it.

As for our industry, porn will ALWAYS exploit any new technology.

It's gonna get worse before it gets better due to billing and scamming. But there's demand and a need for the problems of online transactions to be solved. Within 5 years we'll almost certainly have a reasonable method of definitive online identification and authentication widely available and Visa will have no choice but to finally embrace it.

:) Yeah, yeah, and a computer will never need any more than, what was it, 512k of Ram?

Of course we made a mess of it, the porn industry has a (well deserved really) stigma about it which entices all these 'business people' who want to make quick money at the expense of quality.

Already trying to get billing organised, and I know EXACTLY what you mean  ... but I think that will change depending on what laws open up in what countries.

Porn comes down to a supply and demand thing, and at the end of the day, there will always be a huge demand for porn, whether that be via the internet, dvds, mobile phones or a magazine in a newsagent. Thats what pushes the adult industrys 'pioneering' attitude, is the fact that the first few people to provide a pornographic solution on a new technology will reap the long term benefits.

Once again ... im tired and i think im babbeling

In three to five years I would imagine I'll be seeing the adult internet - and everything else - through trifocals.

Seriously ... some interesting opinions here.

statements like this can end up infamous ... just like 'a computer will never be smaller than a room' and 'a computer will never need to be faster than XX' .... remember those famous statements from history in the last 10 years?

Yup. THIS generation of computer manufacturers are already removing the "big box". Apple's iMac G5 is a slim monitor with the hard drive built in. Then there's the Mac mini. There's a huge movement towards laptops only. I don't even use a PC anymore. Too restricting.

It's interesting to see people talking about smaller and smaller boxes because. at the moment, the chip manufacturers seem hell bent on building chipsets that run hotter and hotter.

When they cram them into a small box there's not enough air flow and the things just cook.

And as for plucking the Internet out of the air - that's not as whimsical as it might sound. A small electricity provider here in Australia and one over in the eastern states in the USA have both been experimenting with providing internet access via power lines at speeds that are truly staggering.

I don't know what is happening in the US but here in Australia they are just about ready to go commercial with it.

Still it's not anywhere near as good as a walk on the beach at sunset with a beautiful woman - except I now have a lot of sand under my desk :)

Amazing really, considering Australia's lagging behind the rest of the world in terms of broadband and other internet technologies

That's interesting - i remember some UK companies trying that out in around 1998 or so. I think they hooked up a small community with it. Didn't hear anything about it since, so it doesn't look like they managed to properly commercialise it. This was before cable/adsl really, so maybe the costs are higher than those associated with cable/adsl.

Have they released a likely monthly subscription cost?

I don't think they have gone as far as releasing a monthly rate list yet.

Yug - what's even more amazing is that it's happening in Tasmania - for those of you who don't know Australia, Tasmania is the island state to the south of the mainland where they think that the rest of the country owes them a living.

It's a magical place for a holiday but you wouldn't want to live there - we were there for 7 years and that was 5 years too long.

the only downside for me using a laptop all the time (well, until the last few years) is the ability to design on it ... its a bit restrictive with smaller screens and colors not handled the same way etc.

so i got a laptop with a 16 inch screen and only use it to design when I need to do something quickly.

we got an LCD monitor as standard with a new computer we bought for the office this week ....... it was the same price as an old school heavy brick monitor with the computer package ....... that's the beginning of these space wasting monitors becoming obselete. i know USA is well and truly ahead of the game here, our prices are a bit high still, but if we are catching up ... the rest of the world must all be using thin monitors by now

has anyone seen that paper that can store data on it? the silver sheet that has layers with data stored between the layers? i can't remember what its called. I remember reading something about a monitor than can be rolled up a certain way too ... stuff we haven't contemplated yet.

i think there's only 1 thing we can all agree on when predicting the future in our biz ...

TECHNOLOGY IS FUN!!!!
