Well?

Personally and through discussions I think there is so many affiliate programs out there dividing up the traffic that there are not the obvious big 5 that there were in days gone by doing 2000 - 4000 new joins a day.

What do you think?

I just realized you said "new" sales. That puts a different perspective on it. I'm going to say 5-10. An example would be CE. I'd bet they are BILLING several thousand joins a day, but I'm not so sure they're doing 1000 NEW joins.

I could be wrong though......

5-10 i would say as its always been about 10 doing 1000+ a day.
the thing is the market is a lot bigger than it was in 2000. So i would say overall # of joins is much higher and the pie is a lot bigger but is spread out across a lot more program with a very diverse portfolios.

bottom line, there are more ways and more apportunies out there for making that $ than ever before.

Yeah , NEW joins.

Also "several thousand" ??

Like 5 or 6 thousand a day??

5000 @ say $40 = $200,000......

Naw.....

I remember The General Explaining to me about the "tail" too. Once.

In simple terms...you have 50,000 members.

You recur at 60%

No new members means next month you have 30,000 members.

To stand still , you need 700 new joins a day , best way.

Also the other thing to worry about with the tail..

Is 100,000 transactions per mth , 900 cb = happiness.

30,000 transactions a mth , 900 cbs = misery.

Can the "Old Time" big affiliate programs survive?

note - I fully accept I may be talking out of my ass here , its just that these discussions are coming up privately quite often.

So I thought I'd try and get some opinions

all I know for sure is that the idea of 'a lot of joins' has gotten a lot smaller in the last few years ...

I chatted with some people recently who were crapping for ages about how well their program was doing and how they thought there were one of the biggest etc and eventually got it out of them they were doing 300 signups per day ...

I picked 5 - 10 from the poll, but think it wouldn't be anymore than 10 - 20 maximum ...

Nick, the only thing that's changed in that above formula is the retention ... 60% retention these days only happens on very few sites - and if you are playing a numbers game of adding 700 new joins a day, the retention on generic sites that do this volume is down around the 30% mark.

I wonder if anyone would share their honest total of how many joins they get per day? ;-)

When I said "several thousand" rebills, I was thinking in the 3-4K range, and yes, I think CE's doing that.

I'd go with the 5-10 option myself. maybe a couple years ago you might have easily been able to say 10-20 but I doubt it these days.

How many signups per day or per month does the average ACTIVE affiliate send these days? And how does that compare to the old days?

there's a lot more in the 1 a week range than ever ... and the amount of affiliates who send 1 a month is incredible.

definately a lot more hobby webmasters than there were a few years ago

Peaches, you're not alone. I didn't notice the "new" sales either. Just saw "sales". I might stick with 10-20. I might have switched to 5-10. Hard to tell.

Mmmm, let's just say 7-12 is the range I'd put for new sales. 10-20 for sales that include rebills.

I can get an idea from my stats who has a lot of members and who doesn't. The answers might surprise a lot of people. Both ways. No, I won't name names.

I think there's useful info there when you take into consideration the layout of the member's areas and the setup and relative positioning on the live feeds page.

Some membersites push 100x as much traffic as others with similar enough setups.

There are just a few that do very much, I think the most signups are geberated by programs that know how to manipulate teh SE's and Mailers ( less than before)

I had some big cloakers promoting us, and those numbers are incredible.

Also the ones with major ,marekting tools for webmasters and personal assistance : )

Yes of course,

1. the info is there.

2. all other things being equal, it does tell you something about the membership base of a program.

but to me it also really shows who is going for retention and who's going for milking the customer ASAP.

Both viable business models... eh, seems some are doing more with less members...

Am I safe in assuming that in this list you are also excluding programs like AEBN, iFriends, AFF, etc. that basically do a free join?

5-10 prolly.

You can do more with less, and less with more, depends on your business model of course. We've never done 1000 in a day, but we have done 500 in one day.

Nickatilynx

OK...Bill came out with honesty and real numbers , so will I.

I have never , really run a proper affiliate program.

I had an affiliate program , but the only traffic sender was...well nevermind ;-))

I have been a part owner of the biggest RAW Clicks program in its time , Traffic Inc , which on its best days could send 3m raws. Hopefully causing sarettah to sweat ;-))

Most I've ever done in a day is 350 joins to my own sites (all self generated)

I have no idea how many joins in a day I sent to HighSociety in a day , however on my best day it topped a million raw hits , with 200k coming from SEs.

The searchengine number of raws is doable still , but the "water" traffic from freehosts is long long gone.I Let them all fade away when HS was not buying the traffic from them.It was garbage.

Last time I beat 100 joins in a day to my own sites (self generated) was over a year ago.

I began to switch traffic away from adult back then.It got a little soul destroying to be sending 60k mail hits to some programs and getting 6 joins.

Switch the same traffic back then to pharmas , and BANG!! what was getting a daily income of say $300 to adult , suddenly got 3-5k to non adult.

I think a lot of the big traffic senders (ie mailers and SEOs) are concentrating on the far more lucrative markets of Non adult , incl pharma , gambling , folexes etc etc.

I must say recently by filtering real hard and learning one or two other new tricks from Oprano family , it is possible to see great conversion rates , and I am filled with enthusiasm as an old guy making a comeback. :)

those numbers are surprising to me. the paysite ownership business has really gone down. I only ever dealt in large quantities of traffic, i got em there, didnt want the job of keeping them. too messy:)

I also always held the opinion that many of the large players in the paysite business overvalued their businesses.

You sound like Serge LOL

"Nick , who wants the headaches of paysites.Stick to traffic"

As I said I wasn't so much an affiliate progiee as I was a guy sending his own traffic to his own paysites.

It did remove the shave element.

And I found a paysite with pretty much an "Under contruction Sign" with a java script saying come back in a week retained pretty much as well as a content rich site.

( note amateur girl sites excluded)

However I'm trying it the new way too :)

definitgely.. generate your own traffic for your own membership site. the only bigger headache than membership and content is affiliates:)
