Looks like the cardinal rule of do not mix surfers and webmasters is no longer a possibility

I mean we all knew GFY was more about fucking around than any serious kind of business anyway, and that way to many fakers and surfers are there to distill through.

But what now, ??? you can bet after a spot on CNN, and an article in the New york post, mentioning GFY that surfers and kids from everywhere ( you still only need to be 13 to register there right?) are going to be all over that board.

How can anyone expect to even be able to wade through the normal rate of 5% of useful info there now?

The odds of actually getting a business thread now have got to be completely shot

Let alone the fact that any potential advertiser will now be advertising to an even more surfer oriented base?

does smart money advertise only join pages now? and skip looking for potential webmasters ? or will that prove to be useless too?

What are your thoughts on how this will affect our industry ? do you foresee a backlash of board intrusion now?

as anyone serious about business ( or even pretending to be) will certainly be looking for a way to filter the kids better ?

What about government ? do you see them getting involved once more Kids are discovered on industry chatboards?

It will have an affect... it IS HAVING an effect...

The wonderful thing about this board, is that there are NOT 17 threads about that lady and her damned hand-held being hacked! LOL

It certainly isnt going to pretty .. thanks to KRL for pointing this one out ..

http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/40993.htm

It even mentions the board and I don't envy the paparazzi and others being fended off from there, as it won't be an easy task.

Paris did it on purpose to get back at the adult industry for distributing her sex tape online

The problem now isn't how to keep them out. Because they are coming in whether people want them or not. Look at Alexa for the last couple days on GFY. The problem is getting people to shut up about business and shit until it all dies down. There are alot of little secrets that surfers probably don't understand from the webmasters point of view that they are being enlightened to more than likely. Not to mention links to check out affiliate programs and help on how shit works and everything else.

May see a sharp influx of people wanting a piece of the pie very shortly.

I am a pessimist though so don't take my word for it. ;)

ummm the url given out was gfy.com

I'd leave gofuckyourself as the messageboard and point gfy to porn and cash in on all those surfers...

something Paris Hilton related :)

I was thinking the exact same thing when I read that article this morning. Would have been fun watching the stats spin.

If you define a webmaster as "someone who earns $2000 a mth without having to sell his sig" there always were.

geez joe, for someone who doesn't care about GFY anymore you sure spend a lot of time reading it or talking about it!!!

its GFY ... it never had ANY useful business threads on it ... EVER.

Pretty stupid turning the board off today with all that traffic, and I'm finding it hard to believe that Lensman is so stupid that he wouldn't redirect gfy to a surfer page. That media would have been good for AT LEAST a few hundred signups, possibly a couple of thousand.

No second chances with media traffic - get it on day 1, or kiss it goodbye.

There is traffic on GFY, thus there is business to be obtained there.

The more traffic it has, the more potential business there is.

There is no such thing as worthless traffic, you just have to figure out how to use it.

Should be a strong week over there.

there's no such thing as worthless cow manure either ... if you could be bothered shovelling and bagging it for $3 a bag ....

I've already said more than I should.

Probably a good thing that no one listens to me.

It would be good if GFY would charge $19.95 per month for a while to keep surfers out.
