Help for the Newbies

I'm sure there are PLENTY of previous posts regarding this sort of questions, so my apologies if you all groan if you read this thread ...

But I have a friend of mine, who has some web skills and runs a few non-adult sites, who wants to give it a go with some galleries and free sites.

Where could i find some legitimately helpful articles online for him to read up on to bring him up to scratch. And dont say 'just go read ynot' ...
