Season Cancelled... an interview with Roenick the day before last said the two sides were so far apart this may not be the only one.

The NHL is dead. with vast majority not caring, no tv, ticket sales revenue, the sport will never climkb out of the hole it dug with its existing fans. Hell if it took baseball ten years to get back to full swing, the NHL has no chance.

See ya! The NHL is dead. Not only do not many people care but they've pissed off a shtload that do/did and it will take them forever to recover should they come back cause any network is gonna lowball em when they see the even lower ratings than they were already getting.

I care! I played hockey from knee high to a bed bug, through college. It's a great sport. But, I was pretty pissed when they knocked down Boston Garden and opened the fleet center. Back at the Garden, you could see a game for $15 bucks if you were short on cash. But at the Fleet Center? $80 for nose bleed seats.

Fortunately we have a farm team for the Blackhawks here and they play many times a week. We're going Friday night! :D $15 for good tickets, dinner buffett at a local sports bar and free beer! Nice!

Then we can all go watch canadians beat the shit out of each other! GOOD TIMES!

We have a hockey team in Green bay and it's fun as all hell to watch em. I'm not a huge hockey fan but I enjoy going to gamblers games.

Why is it that every time a sport endures a labor stoppage, everybody and their mother rushes to opine that "[insert sport here] is dead?"

Could be that most hockey fans realize that this is part of any pro sport these days, and they will just wait it out.

Hockey will be back ...

Gotta admit it killed Pro baseball, and the only reason it came back to any level of interest at all was due to the home run race, wich it appears now was all Steroids....

and it definatly hurt the NBA

and directly after it even hurt the real pros ( NFL )

and for a sport like hockey that really is not that big at all it might just be the death blow .

Joe ... I don't think it "killed" pro baseball. I think it caused a decline in revenues, and probably showed a loss on at least two of the multiple sets of books they keep :D.

I don't think basketball's problems are as much related to labor problems as the owners and their shills want people to believe, either. The so-called stars of today couldn't carry Jordan's jockstrap when it comes to marketing. There's a whole lot of reasons for that.

The league's made some mistakes - no doubt about it. They have teams in places with no "natural" hockey fan base. Still, I think that predicting the death of pro hockey is very premature.

And by the way - the "real" pros? I love my football just as much as anyone, but there is nothing more real about football than there is about any sport - even non-sports like golf. Football has been the most effectively marketed of any of the sports, I'll give you that.

Look at all the hoopla surrounding the Superbowl. How many of them have been actual good football games? 10 out of 39?

PD I mostley am just kidding and using a sense of humor to be a smart ass, I agree all sports are just as valid for pros

But I would argue the point of baseball being alive still ( with exception of a few teams, ) most are losing money and the game will not survive at the rate it is going ..

I for one would love to see baseball implode

I care, I couldnt have cared less about hockey until Extreme John took me to a Tampa Bay Lightning Games (he has season ticket box seats) and it was just incredible! The energy of the place was out of control, then to watch then win the cup man! I am a hockey fan for life, I thought football was the ONLY pro sport I would ever watch until I saw some hockey games (and learned what the hell they were talking about......I mean 'icing' the puck!!?? It's ON THE ICE!! heh heh but it has definitely replaced football as my all time favorite spectator sport. The games are exciting to the last second!

PLease Owners/players, come to an agreement so there will be a season next year

The difference here is that the NHL was almost on the verge of collapse and bankruptcy before the lockout. and its fan base is not nearly as big as baseballs. Baseball took ten years and a historic home run race to come back to its full strength.

This will definately hurt the NHL, I literally (even though I was in my teens) wouldn't watch baseball for YEARS after the strikes because I sure as hell did not feel bad for a baseball player that wouldn't take 8 million a year instead of 12 million a year - Think about it...

The only way I can see it doing anything but severe damage to the NHL is this is the most publicity hocke has gotten in years and it might force some the the farm teams attendance up. When farm team's atendance goes up it makes news and drives the attendance up further.

Once you go to a hockey game or two, GO TO A GAME (not watch it on T.V.) you will not be able to get it out of your blood. It is a great game with NO bullshit, NO scripts, and NO acting. The closest thing to acting may be the fact that in certain games two goons are EXPECTED to fight eachother and if they don't they will both be called pussies for the next month.

As far as the super bowl comment goes, 3 out of the las 4 games were good if you ask me. I would have to say the 2002 superbowl was the BEST football game I remember watching, EVER.
