Im the same Peaches.

I despised Madonna for her remake of 'American Pie'.

I have to give credit to Counting Crows for their remake of 'Big Yellow Taxi' though i actually do quite like that one but its still not as good as the original Joni Mitchell version.

Make that two of us
I was going to add to this thread cover songs that should have never happened

Madonna's cover of American Pie should have never happened
I couldn't imagine a bigger insult
to Don McLean and the listing public
Madonna just didn't get the meaning and significance of American Pie

Just saw Ben Folds in concert the other night. He did a cool cover of Dr. Dre's "Bitched Ain't Shit".
Not normally into rap but when it is sung by a geeky 125lb whiteboy behind a piano it is funny. :rokk:

as bad as that was, it's still not nearly as horrid as Tori Amos covering SLAYER's Raining Blood...she took a song about the apocolypse and turned it into a long, drawn out paino ballad about menstruation....or something like that....

Every song Me First and the Gimme Gimmes have ever recorded except for Girls Just Want To Have Fun. They've done some classics. The Popeye theme, Blowin' in The Wind, Do The Egyptian, Only The Good Die Young, Summer of 69, Walking on Sunshine, Phantom of The Opera, etc.

The Foo Fighters version of Pink Floyd's "Have a Cigar" is excellent.

I don't like Limp Bizkit but i actually like the cover of Behind Blue Eyes. I thought they would try and do something like what they did with Faith, which actually worked well for faith, but would have been horrible if they tried it with a song like Behind Blue Eyes.

A great cover album is Robbie Williams' Swing While You're Winning. Covers of songs from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr, etc. I always liked his voice, but i was just amazed by his new found range once i heard this album.

Ben Harper's live cover of The Drugs Don't Work by The Verve was pretty good too.

Fields of Athenry (an old Irish rebel song) and Guns of Brixton (The Clash) by the Dropkick Murphys. Their remdition of Scotland The Brave; Cadence To Arms is also very good. They do heaps of covers in live shows from what i've heard of their live recordings and bootlegs. TNT by AC/DC thrown into the middle of skinhead. White Riot by the Clash.

Flogging Molly's cover of Whiskey In The Jar. Manson's cover of Tainted Love and also The Living End's cover.

Way too many quality cover songs out there.
