I guess it's all a matter of taste... I know hub's fave is Stevie Ray (he drives me CRAZY listening to him over and over and over and over - get over it already!) - but I've always thought that dude from Santana was good (I'm bad with names, so sue me - lol).

Hard to pick a fave... like fave drummer - let's not even get THAT one started. lol

For me it begins and ends with Al DiMeola. I had the pleasure of meeting him when he played at the Blue Note Cafe in the Village, and although I shook his hand I did not receive any "Al Transferrance." I did not play like him when I got home. LOL

I've always liked Joe Satriani, Stevie Ray, Clapton, Eddie VanHalen... they all have different styles and are great in their own way.

I used to snort lines and smoke weed with Bradley when they came over to vegas from long beach, this was in 90 or 91 or so may have even been 92 nobody had heard of them, they were playing in this UNLV bar (right across the street from UNLV )

and I would go there with some stripper friends of mine and we would really tie it on ( pre herion days I suppose cause I never seen him with any)
But man did we have some fun....

He gave me one of there first CD's ever ( I gave it to My friend J-reel as I know he is a big fan of them) ....

It kinda sounds familiar ... googled the lyrics and it really didn't ring a bell. Pulled it up on Rhapsody and I remembered it as soon as the guitar licks started.

Pssss...

There is no best guitar player. There is no way to measure best
Favorite is another thing
Can't believe two of my favorites haven't been mentioned

Joe Perry
Brad Whitford

I agree, Vick. So many different styles to like.

Joe Perry has a very unique style... kind of the same thing I like about Santana. Neither of them are lightning quick "guitar gods," but yet they've got such feeling...

With you there VooMan
All about taste and sound

Was it Yngvie (sp) that was doing something crazy like 128th notes?
Really couldn't appreciate anything played that fast, was impressive but nothing I cared to listed to

For me the ulitmate guitar sound is Joe Perry playing on "Combination" from the Rocks album

I dig Chuck Berry's sound too

bummer

have to agree with vick and voodoo. no possible way to be a "best", so here are my favorites

1) BB King
2) Jimmi Hendrix
3) Joe Satriani
4) Stevie Ray
5)Carlos Santana
6)Richie Blackmore

Almighty Colin

Despite my favorites, I think Jimi is the best of all time. He has the best combination of style, showmanship and songwriting in addition to an amazing tone. His rhythm playing is as good as - I would even say better than - his lead playing. Truly tasteful.

There was a whole school of guys like that. I personally think Jason Becker was the best of that breed.
