(02/02/05 - LAKE JACKSON, TX) — A Lake Jackson grand jury indicted a woman on charges she killed her husband. Police say she didn't use a gun, a knife or poison to kill him.
Police say a woman took what's known as a normal medical procedure – providing an enema – but she added alcohol to the equation. It wreaked havoc on her husband's health – so much so that it killed him.
"I never knew that it was something like this," admitted neighbor John Chriswell.
Chriswell was surprised to hear what police say happened at a house at the end of his block in Lake Jackson. Widow Tammy Jean Warner is now facing charges in her husband, Michael Warner's death.
Lake Jackson Police Lt. Robert Turner told Eyewitness News that Warner gave her husband a sherry wine enema in May 2004, knowing that the alcohol in it would kill him.
"If someone was to do something, and they knew it was wrong and they continued to do it, they would be negligent about it," Lt. Turner explained. "If the negligence caused the death of someone, then that gets them the criminally negligent homicide (charge)."
Lt. Turner said that's what he thinks happened in this case. In addition to criminally negligent homicide, Warner is also facing charges for burning her husband's will.
Despite the strange circumstances, Chriswell says now he should have known this was coming.
He said, "She just didn't never seem right. She was always walking around, like she'd do like a fake cry and stuff. Me and Virgil, (another neighbor), we knew it was like, something's up there. How, you know, she would make herself cry and then she wouldn't. And then she'd be laughing the next minute. So, I don't know. I just never thought she'd have done something like that, though."
Police will not say anything about the circumstances surrounding the man's death. They aren't disclosing exactly what happened between the Warners that she administered this enema. Police will say, however, that the alcohol in the enema caused Michael's blood alcohol content to spike up to .47 percent. That's enough to put anyone in the hospital, and in this case, cause death.
